Dude, thats a mess

I've contacted a distributor in china that actually has some surplus chips in stock, I'll check with them about the 7203 as well.

Everyone I've contacted over here (UK) have never heard of the thing.

I don't think it is burned. I think the whole board was potted, and he has slowly been chipping away at it to expose the chips.

Colby - How much work is involved in writing the kernel for the MH7202F chip and what information would be needed to do it? I haven't done any programming for years but I'm certainly prepared to pick it up again.

First you need the chip datasheet.

If you are lucky, the ECU may use the same kernel loading protocol and the newer EVOs. If not, you may have to put the chip in a PROM mode and try to read it out with a PROM reader. This is a big pain. You will probably have to desolder a 200+ pin chip and build a socket adapter for it. After examining the ROM and disassembling it, you can figure out the kernel loading protocol.

From there, you go about writing a reflashing kernel which works according the the manufacturer specs. This is somewhat meticulous work, as a failed flashes can damage the chip or render them non-bootable without PROM or other boot-mode programming which may involve a lot of soldering.

Once you have those pieces working, you can start reflashing via the OBD port.

No problem, already working on finding a datasheet so I'll see where that gets me.

Could you get a close up of the CPU chip with the sticker/label on it? Can you remove the sticker+glue with mild solvent to see the part lettering on the chip below?

I've got an evo 5 - the board is out of the car as i'm currently running Motec - but i'll be able to experiment on people's behalf, or even lend the board if it's return is promised.

The MH7203F is also found in the Mitsubishi Evolution 8/9 ACD ECU. Not sure in the 7, but should be the same.

IIRC either the H8/534 or 536 is found in Nissan R33 RB25DET ECU's, has anyone done any work on these?
