Ok some discoveries have now been made.
When I open any 2002WRX rom in ecuedit, either A4SGD10C or the latest one, The maf table looks jaggy at the beginning of the 'map'. When I open the same rom in ECUflash it looks just fine. If I modify the map in ecuEdit so that it is the same as a newer STI rom that is already smooth, it will then look jaggy in ecuFlash. So basically one of the programs is reporting the data incorrectly and I think it is ecuEdit.
I always thought that the jaggy maf data was making the car run weird and buck at certain mafv levels so I thought I could smooth out the data which I thought was irregular thanks to ecuEdit. After copying the values from the sti maf table to my 02 wrx table(up to 4.7v limit) I reflashed and the car would not start. I undid the changes to just the first 2 cells and then the car would start fine but the idle was horrible. I opened the modified rom in ecuFlash and it reported that the maf data was irregular and NOT smooth, but ecuEdit said it was fine. I reflashed the car back with the unmodified version of that rom it ran great. So the car runs great when the map that ecuFlash reports as smooth is loaded, and runs horribly when the map that ecuEdit reports is good.
The weird thing is that both programs show the sti map identically just not the wrx one. The weird thing is only some values in the wrx rom maf table are not the same from program to program, but about 80% are the same. How can only a few specific values in the table be way off and the others be identicle between the two programs?????
