IAM (multiplier) after reset

When i work on my car - electrical, I prefer to unhook the battery. And Im quite sure the ECU resets and the IAM is very low when i reconnect power.

1. IS there a way to store all the learned settings and then reload them after power is reconnected.

2. Can the IAM be changed to a higher value knowing that i did not make and performance change.

I have not read of any better ways to manipulate it than the "Vishnu reset," but I might be behind the times on that.

There is an initial IAM setting. It is probably set to half on the stock ECU. You could set it slightly higher, though I wouldn't set it to the maximum to begin with. There may be additional learning but I think that would get most of what you're looking for.

stock ecu IAM is set @ 8 ... let's say I do a visnhu reset will a stock ecu go to 16max? or wil it advance to a no. <16 for stock ecu?

The stock ECU has an initial setting of 8. It's not just set to 8 forever. It changes as you drive depending on knock detection as you drive. It can go from 0 up to 16.

Yes, the Vishnu trick will make it go back up to 16 faster than just driving like normal.

Increasing your Initial Advance Multiplier setting from the default of 8 to 12 might be a good way to get your ECU to start out closer to maximum timing after an ECU reset. Close enough you don't even have to bother with the Vishnu trick.

Either would work. Personally I'd set the initial advance multiplier to 12 and not worry about anything else.

someone mentioned to rig a 9v battery and connect to cig lighter then disconnect the battery (terminals) that the 9v batt is enough to retain the radio and time and ecu settings

Thanks a million! so basically I can change this initial value of 8 to a higher number but wil not have the option of changing the max value of 16 right?

Correct, range is 0 to 16. You should not attempt to set the initial value outside this range. I have no idea what would happen if you did and wouldn't suggest trying to find out. 12 is probably a good value.

OK got it. I've done numerous visnhu resets & my IAM did hit 16 every time but a friend's sti only able to hit 15... & I was wondering why. guess he had bad fuel back then

The STI's go from 0 to 1 for IAM. Not 0 to 16. All the drive-by-wire (2.5L turbo) cars are this way. Different ECU.
