Mitsubishi ECU "MH8206F" - Any support?

Hi all,

I have a Mitsubishi Magna in Australia and I'm hoping the OpenECU package can read/flash my ECU.
The car is called "Diamante" in the US (1996-2000) .
Google also taught me the ECU is exactly the same in the Eclipses.

It appears the manual transmission cars use "MH8206F" while the auto's use "MH8305F".

The ECU board from this car looks almost identical to one shown here of a Mitsubishi Evo ECU. Another member of my car club has also been in contact with Mynesperformance.com in the US and they think that as long as we're running a "MH8206F" flashing will be possible using the EVO-supported version of OpenECU.

Any thoughts?

Yes. I can't promise anything, but that is the same processor (SH7052) that is used in the Evo 7/8. If it's like everything else we've seen from Mitsubishi, the init sequence will be the same, and you should be able to read / reflash it without any problems. Be sure to post your ROM image once you do!

For a long time here in Australia we've all believed we couldn't flash these ECU's because they were "encrypted".
(I don't think anyone's actually *confirmed* this)

Recently I've also gotten info that the so called "encryption" is related to the factory immobilizer.

Do you see any truth in any of this? will it be a problem or is this a matter of mis-information?

Anything is possible, I guess. In general though for Mitsubishis, one enters a special bootloader program that is pre-programmed on the chip (not part of the main flash memory) and then loads and executes a "kernel" program that is sent to the bootloader. Once you are running your own kernel, you have direct, unadulterated access to read and write the flash at will. Of course, something could be changed about the bootloader to prevent loading your own kernel, but that remains to be seen.

I'm actually a software engineer, so I'm excited about making my car faster AND about the actual software / hardware interface.

I'm going to sit down and have a look through the source you have and see what I can see. I'd love to help out.

Hi Grecy let me know how you get on with this project. Just need to know if you have success with this cable and reading the ECU and Writing back the ECU in your vehicle. I am looking at progressing down this path as well.
