A List of stupid questions i'd like to get out of the way

Ok, i've searched, and been reading over the forums here for about a week now.
I'm a n00b to the OpenECU scooby tuning.. But my intrest is seriously peaked.
After reading (or trying to) the ScoobyPedia entrys i'm still left with plenty of questions.

1. i personally have an 04 WRX. after pulling the rom off the car, i have found out that it is an A4TF300F ROM, loaded on to a AH791 ECU. Now, there doesn't seem to be any coverage of this ECU/ROM file... Can you flash other versions of rom to this ecu? A4TF500F or A4TF400E for example?

2. The 2004 WRX Offsets are listed Here.
are these true across the board? do all 2004 WRXs use the same offsets despite in the ROM/ECU revisions? Some places seem to say yes, some say no.

3. The OL/CL delay... i've seen a few things about it... but still have questions. What is the solve? adjusting the RPMs at wich the OL/CL swtich happens? i ask this, because i have been reading throught the 04 WRX offsets listed above, there are diffrent offsets for the CLOSED LOOP MAX RPM and OPEN LOOP DELAY PERIOD. opening my ROM and various ROMS dowloaded off this site for attempts at self educating, and opening them in varous editing apps, yeilds no editor for the values? other threads refrence diffrent offsets... Example

this WRX is the first car i've owned where tuning really is an option, and i'm egar and willing to dive head first. Me and a few guys up here in the frigid north are really trying to hash this out. but right now it's kind of the guy with the flash light with dying batteries leading the blind.

Welcome, glad you took time to do some background reading. Regarding Scoobypedia, the articles are gradually growing and are not necessarily all joined up yet. That should improve over time, perhaps also will the development of a good FAQ.

In the meantime let's start to chip away at your questions. See separate posts...

I've just compared all the map offsets for the three ECUs you describe. They are all identical. The actual core software and maps might be different. The ECUs are:

* A4TF300F (US WRX 04 Manual - AH791 5182)
* A4TF400E (US WRX 04 Auto - AH802)
* A4TF500F (US WRX 04 Manual - AH792 5183)

You have to ask why you want to switch ECU software. Perhaps you only want to swap maps. If the later that's easy, using EcuEdit's compare and copy functions.

Let us know what your goals are for this one.

Perhaps someone else will help us develop an ECU compatiblity matrix on Scoobypedia?

Not all 2004 WRXs are the same e.g. EURO .vs. USDM. Also looking at Reference (1) above all USDM 2004 WRXs are not the same - very similar - e.g. A4TF800E (US WRX 05 Auto - AJ900 8861) ECU has the CEL threshold slightly different, the rest the same as your ECU.
Basically all your offsets for your ECU are documented in the above link. Simply create or copy an EcuEdit config file and you'll be visualising your maps.

This I can't help you with at the moment. Can someone post a OL/CL 'how to' here?
