Can't read the rom 2005-STI Please help

Postby RICK SCHU » Sun May 28, 2006 10:51 am

I read my ecutek tune just fine - 02 WRX. I've also seen other ECUTEK roms. Or is the issue reading ECUTEK ROMs only isolated to DBW ECUs?

I've read an e****k-ed 2005 STi without a problem.

Turn the ignition on and *then* immediately press "OK" in ecuFlash.

It has come up before with Cobb and Ecutek flashed ECUs. I don't think anyone has ever been able to prove there is anything stopping Ecuflash from reading one out. There is probably something else wrong.

Ecutek has changed things so that you can't. It seems that I can't even marry an Access Port to this 05 STi we are working on. We were hoping to just wipe the Ecuteck license with Ecuflash and then marry the Access Port. No dice. Denso Challenge Response... FAILED!!!

So, how do we do this internally?

You're stuck until Ecutek provides you software to "unmarry" the Ecutek license off the ECU.

There's a huge thread on NASIOC about this. I suggest you read it:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... ?t=1027462

And this one:

This shouldn't be too much of a surprise that Ecutek and Cobb don't want people reading their ROM images out. Unforunately it seems they left some customers stuck unable to switch to another solution. They claim to provide the ability to remove the Ecutek license so you can flash with Openecu or Cobb or whatever, but it seems some people aren't getting that service.

For a while I was stuck dealing with a "locked" ECU and had little luck with three official distributors. Essentially unless you are a returning customer with additional money to be spent they don't want to deal with you. One place in Texas (I'm in California) offered to do it for 25$ plus the cost of shipping both ways :(

Cobb and Ecutek are definitely locking out now. It's just something to consider before you decide on a tuning solution.

I can't say I think it is entirely a bad thing. It is probably best to just pick one solution rather than try to mix them.

I've heard that the AP V2 has the ability to overwrite a ROM locked by ecutek, and then restore to a virgin ROM upon unmarry.
