OBD2 Datalink/ECU-side Emulator

Postby marcucci » Fri Mar 14, 2008 9:59 am

Does anyone know if such a thing exists? I am about to develop something to exercise OBD2 dataloggers and scan tools that can emulate the ECU side of things (i.e. output relevant data and interact with a scan device).

I'm certain these things have been developed by the equipment manufacturers to test their gear, but aside from in-house stuff, I was wondering if there was anything commercially available or anything open-source available.

Sounds like you're looking for the OVT-3020-C OBD simulator/tester from Ease Diagnostics:

You might also be interested in the free software which implements the SAE J1699-3 standard at http://sourceforge.net/projects/j1699-3/. J1699 specifies how to test whether an OBD-II computer conforms to OBD-II standards. So you might wish to use it to see whether your OBD computer emulator is operating correctly. I believe this software requires a J2534-compliant device/interface.
