PLEASE HELP!!! What am i doing wrong???

Postby Easyrider » Fri Dec 28, 2007 11:04 am

Hi, I brought a new laptop(running MS Vista) the other day and have now successfully got Enginuity,ECUflash up and running nicely-Ive allready read the current map, made adjustments and reflashed.

The problem ive got is that i cant get the logger to work in Enginuity-its as if it cant see the tactrix cable(1.3 version). When i press the start log tab i get this message come up in a box-

null, with protocol:SSM, and connection timeout: 2000ms

It doesnt even work for ecuexplorer either!!!

Tried fresh downloads too.

What am i supposed to do about com port settings, as im told these newer laptops dont use com ports anymore?

Even on my old laptop(running MS XP) i couldnt get it to work!!! So im presuming that im being thick.

Any help is greatfully recieved as its a pain logging mentally with a secs monitor/knocklink/rev counter/butt/eye and ears!!!

Thanks.

You probably do not have the VCP driver installed properly. The VCP (virtual COM port) driver creates a "false" or virtual COM port even though it is a USB cable. Ecuexplorer and Enguinity can only log a COM port, not directly over the Openport USB driver.

You should see a new COM port pop up in your Device Manager in Windows when you plug your Tactrix cable in. Usually is is assigned COM5 or COM6 as COM1-4 are reserved. Reinstalling ECUflash may fix this as it installs the drivers after it finishes installing ECUflash.

You may have screwed this up by installing ECUflash while the Tactrix cable was plugged in. You should always install ECUflash while the Tactrix cable is NOT connected so that it can install properly.

just a thought, are you running enginuity as administrator? if not try right clicking and select run as administrator.

If that doesn't work you may also want to disable the UAC prompt. I don't recommend leaving this disabled (though a lot op people do it anyway). but you can try it to see if it gets around your problem. If it does you can set up the vista security to allow it to prompt with out prompt.

Just my two cents. Hope it helps.

WOO HOO- Got it working at long last-its only taken just over a year to do it

I think the problem stemmed from when i was having probs getting Enginuity to install(in earlier thread).
Basically, i ran the pc'c recovery disc, and started from fresh, disabled UAC from the start.
Im presuming that disabling UAC is what done the trick this time i downloaded as everything (including Enginuity) installed without having to change any addresses.

I really appreciate your help guys-honestly. It has been driving me mad for ages.

Well...............Ive got ANOTHER problem,i cant seem to be able to open/create a log file to save any any data to-nor can i save a profile - is there anything imparticular that i need to do?
Also, whilst on the run i can see that its got live data on the screen, but when i give it some stick it stops streaming data and throws up a error message in a box saying-

Invalid header.Expected: 80.Actual: 00.

With normal easygoing driving it streams data forever(just doesnt save anything)

Any ideas???

Im running Enginuity v0.4.0b version if that helps with any diagnosis.

Good news!

Thanks for posting that.
BTW, Are you still running with UAC turned off?

If so I would recommend turning it back on but going into the security settings and changing the UAC to 'no prompt' for admin users only.

see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb756883.aspx

for details.

That should keep Enginuity running fine without lowering your security settings for your browser or normal computer use. Also set Enginuity to always run as administrator :)

What software do you use to look at the log files?

When I'm digging through my logs I mainly use excel (sometimes with airboys log interpolation template) other times I just use excel to filter down to the area I am looking at. I also like ecu edit. it has some handy graphing features. There are so many options out there I am sure you can find something that helps you see through the matrix... err logs...

Just my 2 cents
