Driver issue. I was hoping to not have to ask but I'm stupid

New guy here and apparently retarded.

2003 WRX Wagon, MT which doesn't matter because my problem comes long before this even comes into play.

I'll just give play-by-play...

Laptop, Windows XP SP2, logged on as administrator, just in case.
Brand new Tactrix Cable, 5 hours old, Have 03' Jumper as well.

Install ECUFlash 1.31/1.32. Loads fine, Drivers have green checks "Ready to Use" at the end

Plug in cable, New hardware. Hit "Not this Time", and then the automatic install option, Drivers begin to load.

"A Problem Occurred While Trying to Install this Hardware."
"The file specified does not exist in this directory." So I manually point it to the x86 directory. Nah, Still not there. I do this twice of course, Once for the USB and once for the Serial.

Goto Device manager. Both USB and Serial Openport drivers are listed and are red X'd out.

"Enable This Device" (Keep in mind, It was good when I installed ECUFlash originally) Red "X" becomes Yellow Circle with "!", basically, need to install driver.

Found new Hardware window Pops up. I cancel the Driver install this time and do it manually from device manager.

Same problem. File specified does not exist in this directory. I goto the ECUFlash Directory. It is there, for sure its there. I try and use the MSI package in the Driver directory, Nothing.

AFAICT, there is nothing I can do to load the driver. This isn't rocket sciencestry, But I am at a total loss. Some people say they can't read, can't write, Can write but can't read, I can't even get the laptop to recognize the friggen cable.

I have installed and un-installed 1.31 6 times, 1.32 4 times.

This is why I am retarded. Please, someone, anyone, help me be not retarded.
