That wasn't the idea. I was doing research for another project and happened to discover that quite a few of the apps associated with the OpenEcu effort use the Innovate MTS SDK to get data in from our wideband controllers.

Which is great. The whole reason I wrote the SDK was to make our products more readily usable by other folks. But I also discovered that some folks who would like to integrate our controller - namely Enginuity, really couldn't just drop in the ActiveX control (they are Java and cross platform). When I told my boss that they had even collectively bought an LC-1 for experimentation, he felt bad (he would have normally donated a unit). So he bought me a Tactrix OpenPort universal cable instead and I volunteered to do a Java port of the SDK (with the understanding that it would have to be on my own time), and put it in the Enginuity project.

Again, the idea is just to support people using our Wideband, etc. However, I didn't have a Subaru - and couldn't get my boss to buy me one, so I started by getting the cable to work with my wife's car. Then, of course, it made sense to use it as a test case for the new SDK stuff I'm working on here (we showed a beta version of the next LogWorks at SEMA). Similiarly, I ended up using EcuFlash as a test case for the live-charting add in features.

Bottom line, we just like the concept, the cable, and the community, so we decided to offer a simple bundle. The idea being to help spread the word about the efforts here (if you are in the business of selling automotive data acquisition products for tuners - you want ECUs to become and stay open) and hopefully save folks who decide to get involved a little money (right or wrong, our world view is that great tuning starts with the best possible wideband measurements - and we think we are the best ;)).

If you've already bought an OpenPort cable and an LC-1, you can have the software for free. I cut the disk already, which means that the software should be online tomorrow or Monday for download at our site.

I'm still finishing the Java SDK (getting ready for PRI has been slowing me down) and am planning on putting the cable protocol code I wrote out as source. I just need to find a suitable place. It just doesn't really fit the Enginuity project and I'm too lazy to set something up from scratch.

The complete source for the LogWorks plug ins will be available online as soon as the SDK docs, etc. are ready. The thinking here is that I'll put together at least one other sample, in another dev language, for another open community type project, and use both for SDK samples.

I didn't really read the 'sales side' stuff (I never do - I just provided some links that I thought should be promoted), but the whole thing just stemmed out of an effort to make our hardware, particularly our Widebands, as accessible to this community as possible.

I'm sorry if it came across as anything else.

I think it is great Innovate is providing a package deal for the consumer like this. That package is all you really need to get started tuning your car. Only thing missing is the time and knowledge the end user needs to put forth.

itp, what do you really think is wrong with this? I don't think they're misrepresenting anything. It really is a useful package. What else would you want? A huge black box warning that you'll need to read some instructions and explanation that tuning isn't like waving a magic wand?

I recommend the LC-1 to everyone. I own an LM-1 myself and installed and used an LC-1 this weekend to tune a car.

Not saying that there is anything wrong with it. I guess I was more shocked than anything. I hope that this will lead to open source for other types of cars ie.toyota,honda,etc.

I just over reacted a bit I think. It could be a really nice think. I've been using this combo and others for awhile now. I guess it's just the fact that alot of people put alot time and effort into the open source community to get it where it's at now. And now anyone can plug in and go. Although they still have to be competant enough to not blow up there car.

We will all benefit from this in one way or another.

Isn't that why we're doing it?
