Thanks to merchgod aswell then ;)

Quick Q for you whilst you are here.

As E6 ecu's can now be read, will it be possible to upload them rom into an E7 ecu ?

Or will that fail due to the different processor type ?

I dont imagine thats possible but the beauty we now have is we can see the E5,6 rom so it will be possible to set the maps from an E7 rom up to be the same as your stock E6 rom and tune from there, :D

Have you done the wiring mods on your car to run an evo 7 ecu on yours without problems ?

There was a post on the MLR telling me how to get it all working, but wasn't 100% about it, as it involved having the AC and Rad fan wiring connected to the same pins

Chicken :P

Nah I feel the same about not cutting into the loom, but it's no different really to wiring in an AVCR or similar.

Easy enough to put it all back as it was ;)

Ok next question for you (as me being here is all your fault :D)

How do I create the XML files ?

This is the info from the post on the MLR.

Disconenct the idle switch wire. (pin 87)

Then swap wires 32 and 34 (A/C Lo and Hi fan). Disconnect 20 and 21 (rad Lo and Hi fan)and connect 20 to the wire that is now at 32 and connect 21 to the wire that is now at 34.

That's all that is needed.

Edit: you might want to double check that the A/C Hi and Lo are correct for both the 7 and 6 pinouts above. I need to do this myself on the car I converted.

I will be trying this myself as soon as my new evo 7 ecu arrives.

Thanks go to Wreckleford for the info.

I might also have to swap pins 8 and 22 on my car as I have an RS2, but this would need doing anyway if I bought an evo 6 RA ecu.

aha thought that question would come up,
see thats the honey pot,
CBoles gave us Ecuflash to be able to read the rom from our ECU's but the rom you download from your ECU is the basic code or data,
this data needs to be sifted and sorted into its proper tables this is where the definition file comes into it,
the definition file is the map for want of a better word that allows us to find our way around the rom and allows us to change the data in the correct place that correlates to tuning the engine, does this make sense??
so we need someone more experienced with the rom code to sift through the rom data and define what is what by disassembling the rom and sifting through it, and im afraid thats where I am totally out of my depth,
but I am sure some genuis will sort it, :o

Does that then mean that a flash that is dumped, will only upload as much info as the xml can show ?

For example if you dumped a 6RA ecu and wrote an xml to show the fuel and timing maps only, when you flashed it back to an ecu it would only upload those parts of the map ?

Or would the complete flash go back as it should ??

Sorry if I am being a bit thick.

no the definition file is only for reading the rom it has nothing to do with flashing, when you flash an ecu you download the whole rom same for uploading,

Thats ok then :D

But you do an some kind of xml to actually open the rom to start with right ?

Oh and I am not sure if the rom or the xml is wrong for the evo 7 EDM Ralliart rom, as the High Octane Map Fuel Map looks very strange compared to all the other Rom's I have looked at.

If the xml was wrong, it wouldn't affect the actual rom when it was flashed in though, that correct ?

send me this xml and the rom ??and no if the definition xml was wrong it wouldnt matter when you flash it??
you only need the xml to read the rom not to upload or download it, :)
