Currently Ecutek'd trying to get my AP to install...

Postby ThatOneGuyOverThere » Fri Jul 14, 2006 12:43 pm

Catch is i cant tank my car (only car) and well Cobb is telling me that i have to uninstall the ecutek completely but the only person i know who can do this lives 3000 miles away.

I have a 1.2 cable, ecuflash etc.. So i am wondering if i can simply match up my ecu to a posted rom image and reflash it with the base rom. Fire it up to make sure it works and then marry the access port to the ecu.

Sounds halfway sane.. but question is has anyone every done the above (or ran into switching from ecutek to AP).

You can't. Ecutek recently introduced a lock out that will only allow an Ecutek dealer to flash your ECU. This means that the Subaru dealer, ECUflash, and the Accessport cannot flash anything to your ECU.

Check this thread out:

EDIT: Ecutek has recently introduced an Accessport-like device that will allow you to flash back to stock, but you'll have to buy it

Have you tried dumping the ROM? If you can read it, then you can probably reflash it, too.

Im going to connect back up to it later tonight and see if i can pull another image down..

So it would seem that if i can in fact read the rom i should then be able to write to it. Which means that the version of ecutek i have isnt the "super duper uber DMCA mad ninja robots we are going to kill you if you try something else" version.

Which means the Ap should marry and reflash just fine...

I would still like to do a comparison against an AP'd rom image to see if there are parts of the rom that are touched by the ecutek that dont need to be.

Then you don't have to "uninstall" the Ecutek to install the AP. Personally, I would trade your ECU with another enthusiast for a stock ECU plus cash.

too bad legacyGTs have to be rekeyed, the immobilizer codes changed, the BIU swapped, its not feasible, hence the community backlash.

I was assuming you didn't have immobilizer. Oh well.

AP Worked fine.. Thankfully i must have had an olderversion of the ecutek software flashed to the ecu....

Was dreading that a bit..

Anyways everything is running fine.. now i need to get some data logging done, and maybe start tweaking things a bit..
