1st scan - newbeee

1st scan - newbeee

Postby steve_s13 » Sat Dec 01, 2007 10:56 pm

HI just scanned my evo 8 successfully and pulled the data off using the Tactrix Cable and the ECU Flash.

Now im pretty confident with tuning cars and am familiar with ECU's and the principles of how things work.

I also tried scanning an EVO 4 fitted with an EVO 6 ECU (car also runs an EVO 6 turbo)

Now when scanning my EVO8 i used both the white plug and black OBDII plugs on the single USB cable. When I tried to scan this other persons EVO 4 I could only see 1 OBD port but I did notice that when I purchased my taxtrix cable that it cable with an additional Mitsubishi and Subaru plugs (blade style) Im assuming that the more senior users of the software know what im on about.

Now when pluggin in my laptop and trying to repeay the exact same procedure the software fails to scan. So after looking for the additional plug for me to p;lugin the white plug (of the 2 ) I cannot find it thought I did find the 2 blade style plug for me to use the extra adaptor. I then proceeded to plug this on and scan but it still didnt work?

Am i doing something wrong?

Also, i have saved my EVO 8 file tried to open it up but obviously it fails to open.

How do I go about getting a definition file. The car is a JDM Spec EVO 8. Can I download the appropriate definition file form this forum. Is that what one does? If so, is it a case of me reflashing this 2st back to the ECU (to check alls ok) before then proceeding to modify the map.

Hoping all you fellow tuners can help out a newbee or atleast point me in the right direction. Im hoping this will serve my needs saving me from goign out and buying a power fc (which I could easily map and tune) but I want to do this car the STOCK ECU way and achieve results.

Help!!

Cheers folks, and sorry if this has been asked a million times before already.

the evo iv loom doesnt have wire to pin79,so you need to run a wire to there and then connect to the white plug on your cable.afaik theres no def file for evo5/6 ecu.

HELP CHAPS!!!! need some advice from the more long term user

Postby steve_s13 » Sun Dec 02, 2007 2:58 pm

tell a lie, just had a problem with the car

EVO 8 JDM GSR (just for reference)

right.... here goes...

1. READ DATA from the ECU sucessfully ( after u guys kindly posting the definition files )

THEN saved the file (being the precautious type) i saved 3 copies of the file (probably over the top but who cares eh)

ok... then

2. amended the file and flashed back,.. success, no probs...

3. the proceeded to make minor changes to JUST the fuelling table. didnt touch anything else.

4 Pulled over, did another flash and then I noticed the engine check light stayed on. also the car then wouldnt start..

5. So did another READ from the ECU. alls cool then still the engine check light stayed on. Pulled the cables out. plugged them back in. did all the usual typical common sense checks (as one would do)

But the data FAILED to WRITE back to the ECU. I didnt even get the usual message Prior to WRITE back to the ECU.

The car reads from it but just wont write back...

What doe one do in this situation. the car just cranks over. its as if the ECU has locked itself. I then legged it back home (grabbed another laptop) came back to the car, (after installing software on it) copied over the necessary definitions on my USB key and opened up ECU EDIT on another laptop.

still no joy.

my EVO 8 is now stuck dead and im in desperate need...

Can anyone give me any advice....

Cheers...

Steve...

p.s

i even ran the SOFTWARE on another MACBOOK and still no joy, so im confident that its not any of my laptops. ill attach my ECU file.....

Sorry I'm confused trying to follow the sequence of events!

Are you saying you did a successful read-modify-write-start car cycle and then a further reflash gave a non-starting engine and then a further reflash attempt fails?

Please post the log of the present failed write problem.

None of the files above look standard, please post your original ROM downloaded from the car.
