Hello,

Wonder if someone can shed some light on this for me. I have a UK spec evo 9 FQ300 and i have managed to communicate with the ecu and read the rom using the unlocker from aktivematrix.com

however when i downloaded the rom and try to edit any part of any map it keeps coming up

THE CURRENT MAP DESCRIPTION IS INVALID OR INCOMPLETE. PLEASE EDIT THE MAP DESCRIPTION TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THE MAP WILL BE VIEWABLE AGAIN.

can anyone advice please.

Use 88570008.xml that I posted in this forum - appears to read all JDM/UK IXs, sometimes you have to tell it to inherit if a JDM RS/GT etc but it should natively read GSR and FQ. You might need to change the flashmethod from evo to mitsukernel - use the same as in the 88590015.xml that came with the version of ECUflash you're using.

You need to remove any xml files you've ended up making by asking your ROM to inherit or defining it from scratch. Sometimes they are called undefined.xml. Once you've done this put the proper xml file into program files/openecu/ecuflash/rommetadata/mitsubishi/evo/

ok went into the specified folder and there is already a file named 88570008.xml do i overwrite this file or keep it.

I dont understand exactly the process to change the difinition so please bear with us mate. I have read the ecu and saved the file as evo 9 base map fq300. When i open it i have the errors. do i need to download your file and replace exsisting file named the same. then open ecuflash and open it up. Once open can i make the changes i am after and then send to ecu.

Yes put the file I posted above over your original 88570008.xml

Then your maps should appear. I've not tidied up the xml fully and a few trivial things are greyed out and some weird experimental stuff is in there.

Maps to change are:

Hi oct fuel
Hi oct ign #2
VVT map #1
Boost desired engine load
WG Duty #2,5,7
Boost control load offset

No need to fiddle with anything else usually.

alright bud, yep that works a treat now can open most of the maps, the hi octane fuel map is a bit wierd though as it doesnt show the desired afr figure like the low octane fuel map.

it has numbers and letters only in the hi octane fuel map.

Sorry I'd been playing with it and changed it to hex, have changed it back to AFR and updated the attachment above.

I changed it to hex because I now run my fuel map in RAM and can edit it when the engine is running.

I await Evoscan and Mitsubishilogger to be updated to allow realtime tuning though before I release it.

I'm in Fife.

I attach a V power map which has changes to boost but the #2,5,7 duty will cause overboost because I use an AVC-R. Also the fuelling will only work if you don't have an induction kit. The ignition timing is aggressive and will produce excessive knock sums on some cars. The mods are full 3" exhaust, airbox lid mod, Walbro pump, and the usual FQ340 stuff - HKS turbo inlet pipe, upper and lower hard intercooler pipes.

Just use it as an idea, don't blindly copy it!

Remember to change immobiliser codes, although I think the ECU immobiliser may be disabled in our models.

Oh this also logs load on request ID 00 and 01, and airflow on request ID 02 and 03 (both unclipped).

is there any chance to cause damage writing to ecu with everything you helped me on. I heard a few people say they have not managed to start a car after a burn.

The bootloader on the Mitsubishi doesn't seem to be overwritten during a flash, so you can recover virtually anything. Use the ECU unlocker from www.aktivematrix.com as you must have done to read your FQ ROM if you need to recover a flash.

The IX is sensitive to battery voltage during flashing which isn't helped by having tiny FQ batteries in a Scottish winter. If it starts it will usually complete, but I've needed to use a charger if I've not recently run the car. I wouldn't flash in a layby miles from home without a spare ECU or unless I knew the battery voltage was good - ie car just run.

The Subaru ECUs can be damaged if the flash is partial because the bootloader is overwritten. Also means they can't be unlocked if they've already been reflashed and the codes changed
