I want to back up the ROM on my 06 LGT MT SpecB.
I recieved my 1.3m OpenPort Cable, hooked up my laptop and pulled the ROM with no problem. After it was finished pulling the ROM is when I got asked the question about whether I wanted to copy or inherit from the ROM metadatafile below and 06 was not an option, only an 05. So I think I picked inherit. I then filled in some blanks about year, transmission, etc... I do not have my Case ID and I really don't want to take my carpet back to find out. Does anyone have the case ID for an 06?

Well it looks like ECUFlash generated an xml file for me and used the old case ID of AJ17A I think and the /include has to do with an old Calibration ID (A2WC500N):

My Calibration ID is A2WF200N (AFWF200N.23VH4TUS_MT).

My question is: If I don't have a proper xml meta file with the case id etc... and just saved the file the way it was... is this an accurate backup of the ROM that can be used to flash my car back to stock? My concerns lie with the fact that the 06 have different boost related EPA regulation values and such and if it inherits the old calibration ID what issues does that involve?

Ok... I did a bit more searching and reading on this site and finally found a link to XMLWrite. I ran XMLWrite with my hex file and it found my Calibration ID and asked me if I wanted to include unknown values. I said no the first time. Pulled my ROM again and now it shows up fine in ECUFlash.

For the heck of it I messed around and said yes, to include unknown values and the xml file size is much bigger.

So what I think I've figured out is... that no matter what I am pulling a RAW ROM down to my laptop and it is a backup of my stock ROM. ECUFLash with that xml definition file is just needed to interpret and display the raw ROM in the ECUFlash GUI interface. So the ROM I have can reflash to stock theoritically it just may need a proper XML definition to do it correctly? Or is the correct XML file only needed for editing the ROM?

I don't know what those unknown values may be though... things that are different in 06? or untuneable parameters?

Is there anything that Subaru can come after me about from a legal standpoint if I post the ROM?

Jon, maybe I'm reading way too much into this but each of your posts have been pretty terse commands to me with not a bit of help offered, politeness, or advice. Are you offering to help me or do you just want my ROM so you don't have to deal with me ever again?

You don't need to have definitions to download and save a backup up copy. You don't even need table definitions to flash your stock copy back, but you will need to have created an xml file with at least your revision id and the proper flashmethod described (yours should be "sti05"). The file name, in Ecuflash, should be the same as your revision, but it sounds like you did this already with xmlwrite. I'm not sure if XMLwrite will include the flashmethod for your rom in the xml, and if not you will need to open it with a text editor and add "sti05" to the <flashmethod>. This tells Ecuflash how to flash your rom (choices are wrx02, wrx04, sti04, and sti05 for Subarus).

yeah, I dont know about the progress of XMLWRITE, but it seems like the 511 maps are the latest to be supported on the LGT platform

I think most people will agree that xmlwrite is a one time thing, once they realize where the definitions came from.

Enginuity supports up to 521C/N and if you provide your ROM we can add support for your revision if it hasn't been added already. We are an open bunch of guys/gals, we're not here to steal your stock ROM. If you don't feel like posting it, don't. If you'd like help with definitions, post it.
