2004 STi Read Problems...

We tried pulling the ROM data off of a 2004 STi tonight and ran into some troubles. We are using the 1.28 Software version with the 1.2 cable. We can pull on the ROM info but it will not allow us access to the parameters at all. It appears to pull all the info off that it needs but will not let me access it. I've made sure that I was not in the Beginner mode as well. Not sure what else could be causing the problem.

You need a matching XML file for the ROM.
Search for "XMLWrite".

So let me get this straight. After I pull the data off of the car I have to open the file with XMLWrite, re-write the parameters in the XML Editor, then resubmit them back into the ECU via ECUFlash?

Sounds like you've got the right idea.
The XML file(s) work as a "table of contents" for the ROM files. The ROM editor programs need the XML file(s) to know how to display the maps to the user and manipulate the data in them.

Thanks a million,
one last question is there a good link to download the XMLWrite? I tried the Roxes link all morning but it does not seem to be working. Everything else I googled sent me to that link.

I keep pretty up to date mirrors of lots of the software there.

So I'm getting frustrated. The Evo's don't fight like this car to do this. We've gotten the XML files to work finnally and we've made the changes that we've wanted to make to the car. Now when I try i loading the map onto the car I get the following message:
Flashing incomplete flash type not recognized.
What is the deal with this and how do I fix it?

The XMLWRITE program, for some unknown reason, fails to generate the <flashmethod>xxx</flashmethod> tag in the <ROMID> section. You'll have to edit your XML definitions file with a text editor to add the appropriate tag and value for xxx.
