Tuning of a US MANUAL WRX 01/02 - AF424 - A4SGD10C

I am almost completely finish tuning a 2002 Manual USDM WRX.

The Car is completely stock, except with a USDM (Up-pipe and STI Axle back exhaust)

Period of tuning = 6days. Only a few hours a day. Each revision went as high as x-4 and some weren't used.

The car has wg issues and the owner is looking into it, since we cannot reach boost target and the IC pipe boost off @ 13psi of boost.

Max boost seen was 16psi, but now down to 14.5psi. Otherwise, everything is nice.

We are @ revision 3 of the rom changes and refining the rom.

The car has JDM full learning and is very happy @ IAM=16 w/ no -kc what soever :) and beautiful afr

I did not raise the IAM=16. Still at =8. No need to raise it since it gets there quickly either way and if bad gas is use, the base main ign map is good for it to some point. Work was done in the Ign cor. maps, which makes stuff safer.

When I get some 2,3,4 & 5 gear runs @ wot and good driving logs, I will post them. But at present, I do not have any that I can post.

I believe in this log, the Air con was running for dyno. For sure, this was the case in the stock dyno.

I think Cobb Stage 1 MAP is dead. Stage 2 is next, once the boost goes over 14.5psi.

Have fun everyone with the xls and these results are @ 14.5psi with sport tune boost and WG maps :)

There is a drop in power from 3500-4000+rpm in the lightly smooth graphs. I am currently awaiting input from the owner what happened why this Dyno was done.

Please see the xls file for your review :)

Can you change that to hp/tq for us American people? Either that or post your ddf file. Thanks.

hahaha.

JRS I just like you.

Ok.

Awww, I like you too. :P I'm glad everyone likes me...

Anyway, here's a dyno compare between yours and mine. The map that was on there when I ran the dyno wasn't made by me. It's a shelf map from a professional tuner. The map was made for a stock WRX. My setup is as follows. APS Uppipe, Samco I/C hoses, Prodrive center pipe, STI axleback, AirAid panel filter.

Nice. We are not far behind.

Not sure what our find power would be, since we very stock on what gas and dyno conditions. But again, that dyno was @ 14.x psi.

I am not sure what the graph would look like if the Air Con was off?

I think our torque would lead that graph once everything is sorted out with hoses and what ever else is in the mix.

Can you tell me whats the final boost in that Dyno

Tune is for 91 octane with correction values to support 93 octane if it's used. Using 93 octane. PSI was 13.6 max in most of my runs... some tip 14.0x but only minutely. It's been a while since this run was made. I need to do some current ones, but they will be off since the outside temp is hotter now. It would be interesting to see what the temp differences do to the final power output.

So you are saying that you made 211hp w/ 13.6psi max on your setup?

If I understand correctly, thats great.

I would be interested to see what a full exhaust system would do to this car.

I think would be ver close to that. May even equal.

To be honest, I cannot see paying all of that moeny for a tune and you can create and flash on a couple of car and retune. The price should come down after that.

You have any very stock runs or any more graphs from stock dyno graphs?

All I have is a log with just the flash and everything else stock. That one was 204/196 and made during the summer I think. Also the ROM is setup to run 16.68 psi out of the boost map at very high load and rpm values. Values of 12.xx and 14.xx are in the midrange areas of the boost map. When I loged it in 3rd gear arround the time I was running these logs it would top out at 14 or 13.x in 3rd gear. 4th and 5th would go higher. 5th gear load would bring it up to 15.3x if I remember right. The dyno run was made in 3rd. I need to get some updated logs to see how it is now... I've put a lot of miles on it since those runs were made.

Where are you from now and the average temperature back then?

This car is in New York.

The STI i'm working on inCanada makes big power when @ 0 degress C and lower when it gets hot. But no 27 degree C runs yep. So I'm interested to see what happens, but so far, 25degree looks good and the car learns well.

When stated that power, was it using heavy smoothing?

Well I cannot wait to see this car @ even 15+psi :)

I want to start working on an AUTO. You know anyone?

It seems that I can reach high boost even in 2nd. I can get higher, but need feedback on the car. But its an every day driven car, so keep high boost for 3 sounds better. Suppsoe it rain? lol lol :) :)

I'll get some runs in soon and then we can get the graphs up. Having a 8 month pregnant wife really puts a crimp in your free time. :)

I'll do a dyno pull (or 2) with the stock image so we have a good base of comparison.

There is one more clamp under the IC that I've got to make sure is tight. I also want to inspect all my WG hoses. I gained almost 2 pounds by replacing the stock black restrictor "pipe" connector joining the WGA to the BCS.

The car feels GREAT at 14.5. 16 should be spectacular :). My laptop isn't powerful enough to run both the wideband O2 and the data logger at the same time. I often close one and verify the A/F isn't way off. So far we are great.

This is all on NYS crap gas (93 octane). I normally buy Moble gas, but the tank I'm on now is actually from BJ's wholesale club. It was $7 cheaper to fill the tank so I'm giving them a shot.

Well, Thanks for breaking the secret :)

Since u are running crapped gas, I should post the log.

The last rom I sent u have more ign corr. since you were running out of ign.

Man, take care of the wife. That little girl/boy is all to life.

Too be honest, I am very happy with this tune especially the ecu learning nad the stability.

Well, send me the logs when you get a chance.

The STI in Jamaica and the JDM WRX is Trinindad is going going to be started and I am going to see how the JDM wrx response to some more aggressive wg and boost setup, along w/ avcs.

From the logs today, attached, the boost is getting there, but need looking into on the hardware side.

I am very happy with this tune and is very far from refinement in terms of fuel and ign. Also reducing power in the high rpm range for a save Fuel Inj. %. To high, although there have been proven to run higher over 100%, but that is not going to happen here. Better save than never.

The Dyno's were from a different location and are not a good reference to the old dyno's

For the USA :)

:) :) :)

V3-3, the boost should come on a tab faster.

For your reference with boost having issues over 14.5psi:-

Guys, when this car gets the boost sorted out, this car would be a beast. We need some USDM STI injectors. Not sure if the USDM Inj. is side/top feed.

Do you think that we will pass this :)???

Paul, Can you take a small vid of drive?

You should be shifting more often that before?????!!!!????
