all it shows is

"ssm2_init" messages, then "kernel get version" then "validating denso kernel ram area addr: FFFF0000 len: 0008".

Is it a test connector issue

AFAIK this car is working for others. You should only have to connect the green test connector. The flash block requirement seems to have gone away on most of the newer cars. Not sure any 2.5L engine has ever required it.

I haven't had a chance to get inside an '07 ECU yet and get to the bottom of this. If anyone has one for loan or sale, please let me know.

I have the same connection problem on the EU STi 2.5 Turbo 2007

Mine is a MY07 ECU but I had to connect using '2004 DBW' to pull the ROM, even then I could not flash back

I've offered Colby by email, PM, posts, begging....

to send him my ECU, no reply

I have Tactrix Open Port 1.3 and EcuFlash 1.29a, I cannot read the ROM and I have tried reading using all the subaru models but the same error.

First this thread should have been started in the Subaru STI USDM 2004- forum instead of here.

The US 2007 STI Limited Edition ROM can be read and reflashed by EcuFlash. A guy did it at http://forums.openecu.org/viewtopic.php?t=1037. This suggests that the original poster has not configured EcuFlash or its drivers or his test connectors correctly.
