We're tuning my buddy's car tomorrow and I was wondering how accurate the stock EGT sensor is. Can I tune with it, or should we invest in an aftermarket piece closer to the exhaust ports?

The stock EGT a thermistor and not accurate. It's primary function is to keep tabs on the uppipe cat and put the stock ECU into limp mode if it detects high EGT.

You need an aftermarket thermocouple tapped into the drivers side manifold header.
