You must press the read button before starting of fans, i.e. within first 1-2 seconds.
Also you may try to find another connectors or reading-flashing method.

I have the same problem with JDM STi 2006...
unable to connect.

I have the same problem. I've tested on 4 JDM Imprezas. 1 WRX and 3 STIs. Cannot read ecu with EcuFlash. When reading from my 02 USDM WRX, everything works great (read, flash, log).
