ECUFlash - JDM ECUs

Will ECUFlash v1.01.72 allow you to read an ECU ROM image from a JDM STI Spec C ECU?

Also, is there any software around that allows you to read the ROM image and show you the various maps the ECU is using?

I attempted to read from the ECU, unfortunately it failed...

Car was set to USDM WRX 2002-2003. Using OpenPort 1.2 cable. Green test connectors were joined together.

Should the car do funny things with the test connectors attached? - the car fans kept turning on and off repeatedly in test mode...

This is the normal behavior when test mode is active. While Colby kernel is uploaded, fan should stop. What's your MY ? Have you been able to communicate with your car using for example ECUExplorer and your OpenPort ?

You probably need to use the older command line version. I've been unsuccessful in getting the new GUI version to work with 2002/2003 ECUs. I was able to dump a v7 JDM ECU using the 0.91 version of the command line tool.

I have sucessfully used the GUI version with the OpenPort 1.2 and previous version on my 2003.

With the latest GUI version, hit OK, then turn ON the ignition. It should start.

FWIW, the GUI version of ecuFlash works fine with my 02 USDM WRX.

MY06 JDM STI Spec C Type RA. I can successfully connect with ECUExplorer no problems...

I'll try clicking OK first and then turning the ignition on, the software asks you to do it the other way round. If it still doesn't work, I'll try the cmd line version...

I use the "ecuflash gui v3" on my JDM ver8 STi (ecu model# AH581) without any problems.

You may need to jumper the white flash block.

For me (2002 Euro WRX), it works if I click on the flash icon (dialogue box will the appear), turn the ignition on then immediately hit ok. If I do it right, the check engine light does not come on when I turn the ignition on. Works every time!

Sorry, what is "DBW"? The ECU is a Denso ECU.

Sorry, what is "DBW"? The ECU is a Denso ECU.


DBW is for Drive By Wire throttle.
Your car is fitted with a new generation ECU, not yet supported...

I knew the USDM's were DBW, but I thought the JDM's weren't DBW. (?) Maybe just the '06+.

Correct, my car (JDM MY06) is not DBW...does this mean it should be supported by the current version of ECUFlash?

MY 05 JDM works with the GUI so would've expected the 06 to, you have to jumper the flash block connector and be very quick when you turn on the ignition. It took a few goes but got there in the end.
