i gave up, i cant connect to my ECU to read the rom,
i have connected the white flash connectors and it doesnt do a difference...
i must either have the world rarer and best ecu in the world...
the car keeps cyling into diagnoses mode and doesnt let me connect to read rom...
what i have notice is that ecuflash when white connectors are connected doesnt enable the options from menu to compare or test write it only displays the read button...
anyways i guess its UTEC for me or shipping my ECU to states for a real flash which works.. people i have tried im sorry i gave up

So you posted asking for help yesterday, now you are giving up? It's DIY buddy (do it yourself) otherwise you have to pay for it. Have you considered the possibility that your ECU might be an ECUTek unit?

Have you got any friends cars you can try it on, to see if the cable itself is at fault or installation etc? Don't Give up yet! Its probably something simple, but unless you keep trying, you might be missing out on the coolest bit of gear you can play with yourself

Dude, i have flashed my car 50+ times by now.
It works fine, if you have the AJ880 ECU as you say it HAS to work.
I think I know what is happening, when you open the read ECU diag, select
2001-2003 WRX and give it a try.
It is also very important for it to work that you have all necesary plugs conected, also, in the software go to where you are just one click away from attempting to read the ECU. Now you have to turn the key and then click ok on the software almost instantly.
Let me know if it works.

Sorry to hear you did not get it work. So far I have flashed about 180 times and use the datalogging software daily.
Go take a climb up Hoiberg right after dinner on a clear day when you can see Venezuela. On the way down the cause of your malfunction will appear only if you consume seven strong beers once you reach the top

OK, I've got the same problem on my '02 WRX...bone stock. I can datalog no problem, and ECUFlash recognizes the cable, and gives me the 'read' icon highlighted only. When I click it though, I get an empty window, and nothing happens. I've got the white connector shorted, I've got the green connector plugged in, and the car constantly cycles the fans, etc.
I'll try the trick of trying to start the car in diagnostic mode, and see if that makes any difference. Any other assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'm loving the datalogging, but I'm itching to learn more.
If it matters, I have a Canadian model car, which for these purposes, I'm assuming is close enough to the USDM car.
Thanks,
Steve

I've somehow managed to get my ECU to read through ECUExplorer. The main difference this time was keeping the green connector unhooked (but flash plug shorted), telling the program to read, then following the directions to connect up the green plugs, click OK, and proceed.
I'll have to try it again, and see if I'm successful with the same procedure. Still no luck directly with ECUFlash.

update:
Hv try to run ecuflash 1.28, 129a & 1.3 on my Win XP.
Chose 2001-2003 WRX & 2004-2005 wrx.
All seem cannot read the ECU ROM.
May be we really need a better ver of the ecuflash for the EDM & JDM??
