Problems Flashing MY04 AU Legacy GT

Hi Fellas,

Had a shot at trying to do a Flash of my LGT ECU today, but the ECU just wouldn't accept the new image...

I did do 2 'Test Writes' prior to the actual flash, and it all seemed OK... When I finally did the actual Write, the Failure message came on... Tried twice with the same result...

Green connectors were connected, and the fans cycled as expected. Cable was a 1.3M with ECUflash 1.28.

Fortunately, the original ROM image was still intact.

Has anyone here had any success with the AU MY04 Legacy?

Thks!

it might be that you are using the wrong flashmethod for you car. Look up the xml for your revision (ecuflash directory - rommetadata/subaru) and tell us what flashmethod it says. I would imagine you should be using sti04.

That's right mate!

The Flash Method used is the "sti04".

Just confirm that there is no need to connect the white block connector in the Legacy as well yeah? Couldn't find any...

Thks!

Make sure you are doing the connector underneath the passenger side, as well as the connecting the two white connectors together on the drivers side (next to the acc. pedal).

I know it sounds crazy, but try the 2001-2003 method.

Is the vehicle a drive-by-wire vehicle? If not, you can't flash it using a Mitsubishi cable, because there is no reflash voltage (which is required by non-DBW Subarus) present in that cable. You need a Subaru cable for that purpose. The Mitsubishi cable can flash DBW Subarus, but not others.

Yup. It's a DBW vehicle... Tried using the 2003 method, but that din't work.

I'll try again as soon as I can with the latest drivers you have in 1.29.

Hi Sevenphotos,

I tried looking for the white connectors you mentioned, but couldn't see anthing there that looked like it might be it. I'll try and take a photo of the area.

Thks everyone for your help!

Cheers!

Replied in to your pm, but thought it would be a good idea to repeat it here. Next to the accelerator pedal, on the right side of the footwell is a panel that can be popped off. There is cables underneath there, and there is a pair of unconnected white blocks. You need to connect those blocks together to put the car fully into test mode and to be able to write to the ECU.

Cool!

Here's the photo that sevenphotos is referring to...

I'm going to try this as soon as I can!

Thks again mate!

Dang...

I connected the white plugs behind the panel (together with the green connectors under the passenger side dash), and still couldn't flash my ECU...

Flash Method sti04 seems to be the only one able to interface with the ECU when I'm do a 'test write'... so haven't tried the others...

Sorry fellas, but I'm hoping someone can help me out on this?

Cheers!

My best guess at the moment is that the AUS ECU might be wired a bit differently on the PCB inside and loop a different I/O pin of the CPU to the CPU's FWE (flash write enable) pin, and so the kernel is not able to enable actual flashing.

1) Would it be possible for you to remove the ECU and it's cover and take a couple of photos of the PC board?

2) If you are more electronically inclined, take a look at the attached PDF pinout of the SH7055. On the ECUs I have seen, PD8 (pin 1) is wired to FWE (pin 56). Could you verify with an ohmmeter that this is the case on your board, or try to locate the additional pin that FWE is connected to? Keep in mind that the PCB is conformally coated, you you will have to poke through that with a sharp probe to make contact with the pins. you can also use acetone and a Q-tip to remove the coating.

Was just wondering out loud before I go testing my skills with the toolbox...

Would the def file have affected the success of the flashing?

Thks!
