If someone is only interested in data logging, do you only need the SSM interface? And does this mean you don't need any strange baud rates since SSM is 4800 baud only?

So does this mean you can use some sort of K-line to RS-232 interface module and is there such a thing? Can it be created with a simple design instead of using the ELM chips?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but everything on the web seems to be concerned with OBD2, which requires strange baud rates which should not be required with SSM.

The problem with many OBD interfaces is not just the baud rate, but that they process the data using a microcontroller. In this case, you want an interface that simply passes the serial data to a RS-232 port or USB serial port unaltered. If you can find a simple K-line serial interface, 4800 baud is standard and will work fine.

Found a chip version and a discrete version.

Not sure where I'm gonna get -12V on the discrete version though.
