I've searched for differences, and have found that cables bought after October '05 should be version 1.2. I have an opportunity to purchase a used Tactrix cable, but I do not know it's version. Is there any functionality difference between a version 1.0 or version 1.2 cable?

1. The 1.2 has an electronically switchable reprogramming voltage, versus the "always on" voltage of the 1.0. This allows you to plug it safely into non-Subarus
2. The 1.2 can operate at higher speeds, which allows it to relfash DBW Subarus like the STi.

Would you say that for a 2005 Subaru WRX, the cables are functionally the same? The version 1.0 cable would work fine, albeit, it may run slower?

The speed is determined and fixed by the software, not the hardware. The 1.0 will work fine for a 2005 WRX.

Thank you for your help. Now, I just need to negotiate the price down a bit. If the seller won't budge, I'm ordering a new cable from you, because it would be about the same price.

If the price is that close, I would just get a new one. It works with more cars.
