i made a little bit of research on this forum, but honestly i really don't get it

I would like to be able to read my "Check Engine" code on my 2001 Subaru Outback 2.5
Can someone tell me wich hardware do i need to read the codes.

one of my friend use the open port 1.3 cable for is WRX 2002, is it the same setup?

1.3 is not manufacured since OP2.0 is released.
You should use v1.3 with the most of logging software (EvoScan, RomRaider), 2.0 is suppurted only by the RomRaider.

Such a cable (and software) maybe incompatable with 2001MY. You do need to check friend's setup with your car.

SSM2 Subaru Select Monitor protocol is a must, MY2001 may support SSM1.
