HELP ! Confused by response to ECU Init command

Hi all,

I'm really sorry if i'm miles behind on all this - but i've spent the last 12 month or so working on the early ECU's (as I had an early car!) I've since sold that, and due to a pay rise at work, I've gone out and bought a new age one !

So.... me being me, I want to play with the ECU. I've got one of Colbys OpenPort cables, and I've sent my ECU the 'Init' command - and blow me away - it responded with 50+ bytes ! Amazing !

But.... What do they mean ? I know it's a AF481 ECU (cos it says so on the lid, and ecuExplorer has identified it) but I can't see that in the Init response.

Does anyone have a breakdown of what the bytes in the Init response mean ?

Thanks very much. I'll try and catch up as fast as poss - promise !

Helen. (UK)

PS : I've posted this twice. I posted it in the part of the forum that I thought it should go in, but then I noticed that the 'General Discussion' seemed to have a lot more people posting and viewing - so I've posted it in here as well - sorry !

there is a page somewhere here that details the SSM protocol. i have it in .pdf if you want. it explains pretty much everything, although there are some data item addresses not included.

mail me if you want it.

Thanks Calvin

You have mail.

Does anyone else have any info ?

I'm going to collate what I can find - produce a document - and post it on here, (with the permission of whoever provides me it of course). That way we can pool the knowledge gained.

Hi Helen

I also have an AF481 - 7546 ecu in my car and am in the UK. There is a copy of the standard rom file off it in the 2001-2003 JDM STI section if it is of interest.

I am trying to solve a surging issue with my car right now so am also starting to experiment so I would be interested in whatever you put together particularly if it is related to the AF481.

If it becomes of general interest then perhaps it is something for scoobypedia ?

.. .., you got mail

Edit: This info really should be on a wiki, and scoobypedia seems to be a good place to put it.

All,

The document (ssm.zip) is only partialy complete. There are no mention of the following that I can see.

ECUID bytes - where are they - and what do they mean.

ECU response type - again, no mention of them

DTC Real Time and History - is it possible to read these using the SSM protocol ?

We as a community should update / expand the SSM document. It is a good start, but the community must have managed to fill in some of the gaps. A Wiki for this would be really good. If you discover something, add it to it - even if you only have a theory on what a given command does. If it's on a Wiki, someone else could try it, and possibly prove or disprove the theory.

Someone suggested Scoobypedia. I myself would prefer it to be on OpenEcu - but I don't think it's possible to do a Wiki on here is it ?
