Hello!

Please pardon my noobness, but I have a very basic question regarding ECUflash and RomRaider.

I'm not sure how these two applications relate to each other if at all. I understand that ECUflash is needed to actually retreive a map from the ECU, but once retrieved, can you read and modify the map using either ECUflash or RomRaider? Or can you examine a map and do reflashing with ECUflash alone, or do I need both something like RomRaider to examine and change a map parameter in a table?

Can anyone please point me to a discussion somewhere about how ECUflash and RomRaider relate to each other?

Again, please excuse my noobness. I'm reading and trying to get up to speed.

http://www.romraider.com Read this site if you plan on tuning your Subaru yourself or would just like to learn the aspects of Subaru specific tuning. There are many sweet programs built in to help ease in the tuning process (like MAF re-calibration for one) and data logging. This is the most comprehensive web-site for Subaru tuning

http://www.xpttuning.com/osecuroms Is a site that can help in Mitsubishi and Subaru tuning, with most content in ROM archiving and trouble-shooting tunes. For a VERY fair price, you may also look into having a tune done for you through the site.

If you are looking into model specific tuning methods, you should see if there is a forum for your specific model. Most automobiles have there own dedicated web-sites, usually with a section on tuning or engine management.

Just read all you can on your vehicle with all the pertinent information of your engine’s input/output systems and you will understand the concepts of ECU tuning. Good luck and have fun!

* ECUFlash is required for reading the original file and reflashing it back in once changes are made. It can also be used to make tuning changes. However it cannot log data.

* ROMRaider does not read and reflash, but can be used for editing, and supports serial data logging.

The ROM definition files are different for both applications, so if you're making your own, I'd advise sticking with one only.

Obviously then you need to use ECUFlash for flashing. Whether or not you use ROMRaider depends on how much you use its data logging features to help you tune.

Another thing to note is that, for the versions I've used anyway, ROMRaider does not seem to support signed numbers in tables, whereas ECUFlash does. This is not a problem for Subaru but I think it can be for EVOs. [corrections to this statement welcome]
