load PDX maps with ecuflash?

So I saw that you can purchase OTS maps from PDX Tuning (http://www.pdxtuning.com/mapupgrade.htm) that can then be loaded onto your ECU using an accessport; If I were to purchase a PDX map (I don't want to rip anyone off), would I be able to load it using openECU and a tactrix cable?

I suppose I can have a buddy load it onto his car using his AP and then take a flash of his ECU, but it'd be cool if that could be avoided.

off the shelf it will most likely be in an encrypted format. ap will decrypt and flash to the ecu.

Ahh, yeah that makes sense. I wonder if places like PDX would be willing to sell their maps for load via ecuflash. I guess they probably like doing it through the AP since it more or less enforces use by only one car...

Would there be any issues that you guys see with going the latter route -- loading onto a buddies car using AP, copying the ROM using openecu and then flashing mine with ecuflash (and finally putting his car back on his cobb map)?

Other than the possible legal implications, it's fine. Trey at Cobb apparantly doesn't see this as stealing intellectual property (which surprises me a lot), I don't see how PDX would have much of an argument.

This is a question best asked to PDX Tuning. In any case, you should definitely pay for the map as this is their hard work. One one hand, they could sell a lot more maps with a cheap device like the OpenPort to load them, but on the other hand they also make money selling people the AP's used to install their maps...

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't load someone's map without paying for it. Though it's obviously possible to do without getting caught, I make it a point to pay for the commercial products that I use. I figure people work hard on this stuff and deserve to be paid. That being said, I'm gonna have to trade up my accessport cable for a tactrix cable to support this fine work here ;-)

I fired an email over to PDX asking them about the possibility of buying stock maps from them for load via ecuflash rather than accessport; I'll let you guys know if I hear anything back.
