Want to read ECU only, jumper block needed?

I just want to read what is on the ECU now, currently do not have any interest in writing to the ECU. I bought the tactrix cable and hooked the green test mode connectors together but have been unable to get OpenECU to read the ROM image. Do I have to jumper the other block as well to only read the ECU image? My impression was that the shorting of the other block was only needed if I want to write to the ECU and I wouldn't have to do it if I was just reading from the ECU. USDM '03 WRX.

You only need to close the green connectors to read the ECU.

For EDM MY03 WRX you also have to jumper the flash block.

Didn't have any time to work on it last night.

To verify the drivers installed for the USB Serial Converter are FTDI, 12/12/2005 version 1.0.2176.0 and the USB Serial Port (COM5) is FTDI, 12/12/2005 1.0.2176.0.

Port Settings on COM5 are 9600,8,N,1, No flow control. Is that my problem or does the software go ahead and override with the port settings that XP is setting?

If I get a chance tonight I'm going to try to jump the block to see if that lets me read but I'm not sure I'll get home early enough to have much time to work on this.

I'm also stumbling through a new learning curve. Of course I had to drag my CPU out in the garage to even attempt.

I was trying to read the ECU with the cobb stx map, and then I'll reinstall my original ecu and read that. I have a pretty early build 02 so I'm interested to see the "stock" values.

You driver settings look fine. The baud rate is not important - the software takes control of that. I would try the jumper block. Do you have one with 6 or 3 pin locations?
