finding launch control in the rom

hey whats up?
i have pulled a rom off with launch control from one of my friends car. it was flashed b4 with a launch control on it. our other frind wants the LC on his car but i can't find where in the rom it is located so i can't put it on his car. maybe you guys can find it and show us?

I don't think it is that simple. Or rather, there is no launch control in the ROM to begin with. If your friend had LC in his ROM, someone had to go in and program it in. It isn't just a map value or a toggle.

there is a rpm rev limiter at 5000 or 6000 rpm (dont remember) when the car is stationary in this rom, i saw it myself. maybe you guys wouldn't call it LC but whatever it is, it limits the rev when the car is stationary and revs out clear to 8000rpm when the car is in motion.
FYI - when i checked the wideband, it said the car was fluctuating between lean and stoic when it hit the launch limiter, maybe that can help you guys figure out what it is.

The initial and max wastegate duty cycle maps are all 0.
I see where the tuner (jim) that "enabled" the LC changed the ECU ID to a4te002c (even though the car is not a "spec C".
Long and short of it is that the LC is more complex than just changing maps in the ROM. Even if you flashed this Rom to yor friend's car it wont get LC. Good News is that its being worked on.

FWIW, I have looked at the rev limiter code in the AJ243 (2004 STI) ECU and I don't think it would be very hard to hack it in a secondary rev limit
The ECU can pull in vehicle speed, so all it takes is a check on vehicle speed. If it is above a certain speed limit, branch to the normal rev limiter. If it is below a set limit, use a different value. This is code only, no physical changes. This would only be injector cut, just like the stock rev limiter.
I suppose you could also branch based on the clutch sensor bit.
But I will say that this particular ECU does NOT have LC to begin with. It will have to be hacked in.

I like the idea of checking on the clutch signal instead of the vehicle speed Since, the clutch signal check will also give use no-lift shift. Of course, ideally, there would be two things.
One stationary rev-limit for launching (vehicle speed based) and another rev limit during shifting (clutch based) which may be lower than the launch control rev-limit.

Too bad US WRX 16-bit ECUs don't have access to the clutch switch.

This is how they do it in DSMLink for DSM ecu's. Can we get to the code that we have to change? Would be an easy write to jump from normal rev limit to open eprom area and our simple code.
