I haven't checked, but it would be fun to do one for that car too. I don't have one to develop on though.

EVo 5, 6 , 7 and 8 seems to be using the same protocol. I may have an old ECU from a 6 (have to check).

Any pointers to protocol information that is known so far? ECU CPU? Pinout used on OBD connector for reflashing? I'm doing a minor redesign of the OpenPort, and I'd like to make sure the hardware supports the EVO too.

CPU seems to be Hitachi H8/539F. Don't have many information on it right now ...
Anyway, on early version it seems there is an ISP connector on the PCB. Need to check on a EVO7 or 8 ecu. Did someone have some pics ?

took out the EVO 8 ecu. pics in the following folder -
www.tari.co.za/images/EVO
dont know if they'll help. ecu seems to be covered in some sort of sealant. cant read numbers off large chip.
first images show the obd port and another white plug under the dash. obd port has pin connectors on 1,4,5,7,8,14,16. the white plug is apparently used during a reflash too, there is only 1 pin in it. not sure where/what it gets connected to.

Thanks Calvin.
The ECU PCB is probably conformally coated to protect from corrosion / shorts, which makes reading numbers off of the ICs somewhat camera proof. Were you able to read what is written on the IC packages, particularly the big one?

Hi, Calvin, I'm a newbie there, but want to add 2 cents about EVOs.
First of All - there is readily available EVO-.bin reader.
http://kaele.com/~kashima/car/evo/ In JAPANESE!
Second - Sealant can be easily and harmless washed by using just regular gasoline or smthing like it.

do you mean the hack-job in the picture? software would be easier...

Calvin, Of course software would be easier, but when you need to write software to download/upload flash via OBD2 it is necessary to got firmware to disassemble etc. That is the only way currently discovered by me to allow this. Also, as you could see, there is not so hack job, coz there is readily available connector on EVO ECU PCB.

Actually, it is. I should have some Mitsubishi tools out pretty soon along with Subaru DBW ECU reflashing. This is going to be fun!
