Evo 5 ECU question

Postby BarryC » Wed Jan 17, 2007 12:51 am

Has anybody here sucessfully swapped an ECU from a 7 or 8 into an Evo 5 or 6???
I am currently looking into this as I need to start tuning my car for lower Octane fuel and remove the speed limiter,
I have been studying the electrical schematics and everything between the two models CP9A and CT9A seems exactly the same except for a couple of changes, e.g. the fuel pump relay control needs to be changed, from pin 8 to pin 22,
but has anybody got past the cooling fan problem???
the earlier models CP9A use a two speed motor and the ECU has two outputs pins 20 and 21 for low and high speed,
but the CT9A has a PWM signal for a variable speed motor from pin 21,
anybody know how to change the PWM into 2 speed????
their is also no immobiliser signal on the CP9A, and the intercooler sprayer is not controlled by the ECU on the CP9A models apart from that everything else bar the Maps are the same,
any help would be appreciated,
BarryC

I know you can use PWM controlled solid state relay for controlling loads. It might be easier to wire it in than change other stuff to 2 speed.

Have a look here

Also you will need to set the injector scalars and deadtime correctly for the injectors, which is hard to get correct without an oscilliscope.

How do you measure injector lag time with a scope? I thought it was physical time for it to open once energised and would not show in a scope?

Sure, but I don't have a manual. I'll look it up if I ever need to, just thought it might be easy to explain ;)

how did you solve the cooling fan problem Evo4mad and is there any chance you can show us how you adjusted the scalar values please.

fan controll is all on the piss as well if you put a E7 ECU into an E5. E7 fan is MCu controlled, E5 is 2 speed relay controlled. IIRC there is a O2 sensor issue as well.

Yes, but do you just leave it disconnected or run wiring and fit one?
