I've queried Cobb on the above combination, officially it is not supported as they have an agreement with Prova in Japan that gives Prova exclusive access to the Japan and JDM ECU market. They said to contact Prova, and that the Prova AP will not work with the StreetTuner. I've contacted Prova and they will only offer the product to customers who tune with them....so dead ends everywhere...
So that's the official line from Cobb...
Now I currently own a TurboXS UTEC that works with my current car, which runs the same code as the US WRX UTECs...the UTEC hardware is slightly different, apparently this is to do with a voltage difference on one line into the ECU (if you install a US WRX UTEC, my car will throw a CEL but will still work). So the differences are non-existent from the point of view of interfacing into the OBD port.
This makes me think that a Cobb AP + StreetTuner that works with the US WRX is probably technically going to work with my JDM car. Cobb have almost even admitted to this, using the term "technically" it will work. In other words, if I purchase one through the US channel, it may in fact work. Given Cobb's 30-day money back guarantee, it is even probably quite a safe bet...The only thing I can think of that could be an issue is if the StreetTuner/AP checks the ECU ID against a list of known types, and refuses to connect as it does not match a US WRX ECU ID...
I'm raising this issue here because I figure OpenECU members know alot about the ECUs in the various WRX/STI variants worldwide and therefore will know of the similarities/differences between the different types of ECUs...
So what are your opinions on this?
