MY2005 WRX 5MT after Unmarry of Cobb Accessport

Here is the ROM dump from my 2005 WRX 5MT, I had a '05 specific AP (had the firmware upgrade) and got rid of it a while ago. This is the map it left me with. The identifier is A4TF800E, that doesn't seem right?

The last digit, E means its for an AT car (I believe). Other than that, it's definately a 2005 WRX image, and that looks to be the most recent. Do you know what revision you had before you unmarried the AP? Or what you had before you first used the AP?

Edit: Oh, and it's 160kb because the dump doesn't include the RAM blocks.

Yes, the A4TF800E CalID is for a 2005 WRX AT. If you want, you can download a ROM for the 2005 WRX MT with CalID A4TF800F at http://forums.openecu.org/viewtopic.php?t=92.

There is a more recent ROM for the 2005 WRX MT which has CalID A4TF810F. It fixes a problem with pinging at WOT around 5000 RPM. I don't think anyone has uploaded that ROM to this board yet.

Thanks Jon, I just grabbed that one and I'm going to apply my recently created Stage 1.2 Map to it and load her up. I'm also posting a Stage 1 HWG map from a 2002 in a few moments as well. I'd be interested in getting the "new" updated one that you mentioned from SOA.

If you take your car in to a dealer I'd imagine they'll flash it for you.

They can if they have the new SSM III up and running (not all dealers have that yet). Additionally, they usually want to experience the problem themselves. Maybe if you told them you heard pinging at 5000 RPM in 5th gear, they'd just take your word for it.

I think this is what I need, as this is exactly the issue I've been seeing from time to time. Changing fuel brands (Shell, Chevron, 76) has no measurable effect. However, I never seem to be able to reproduce it for the dealer, so they refuse to touch it. I've asked them explicitly about this newer firmware, to which they replied, "there is nothing we can do."

Hope someone uploads that image soon! I'd love to clear up this issue ASAP -- hearing pinging at WOT is a scary, scary sound...

The dealer, BTW, was Carlsen Subaru in Redwood City, CA; if anyone had a different experience please let me know!

But is it OK to use A4TF810F over old A4TF800F and A4TF520F (fixing the same problem for 2004) over old A4TF500F (or A4TF510F)? Are they fully compatible as data offsets are different in them?

Yes, the hardware is the same, you're replacing the entire image -- code and all.

No, but I think it will be the same as A4TF520F :-)

New firmware flashed in by dealer

Postby FromageTheDog » Wed Apr 12, 2006 8:50 pm

Update:

Took my car to the dealer and described my issue exactly as outlined in the SOA bulletin describing the 810F firmware update ("pinging at 5000 RPM and WOT") and they informed me of a firmware update they could do to fix it. A far cry from their initial "we can't help you" response. I assume that they flashed in the 810F (or later) firmware to replace the 800F (or whatever) firware that was there previously.

So, initial impressions -- much smoother throttle response in the lower gears, but peak boost @ WOT in 2nd and 3rd is now ~13 psi, when before it was closer to 14.5 psi. In 4th and 5th @ WOT, peak boost is as it was before. Not sure if the ECU will re-learn around this or if this is permanent reduction in boost. The Subaru tech did warn me that the car performance would suffer slightly, so I can't say they didn't warn me.

I'll look into getting a Tactrix cable to see what I can do about downloading and sharing whatever it was they uploaded into my car...

Apparantly rather than fix the OL/CL delay issue they just retarded the timing a bit in the affected areas.

Where do you live?

That's pretty much exactly what the tech guy said -- timing is pulled back, so expect some loss of performance. It's definitely more sluggish in the low (<2500 RPM) ranges, but other than the slightly lower peak boost, doesn't seem all that different higher up.

Did they also adjust the boost maps, or is the lower boost I'm seeing just an artifact of the pulled timing?

I live in the California Bay Area. Yeah, I know -- crap gas.

Good question, I don't think we have a copy of 810 yet.. Get a cable and upload it.. :)

I was actually hoping you'd be nearby so you could use mine but no such luck I guess.
