Evo ECU Conversion

Postby BarryC. » Sun Sep 23, 2007 3:40 am

ok for a while now I have been working on converting my evo 5 to run with an Evo 7 or 8 260 ecu,
Its finally done and tested,
My car runs with no rear o2 sensor and no EGR valve,
I have no EML/CEL codes and no resistors to short out cables as others have had to do, everything runs perfect,

I am attaching the excel spread sheet with all the data to do this sucessfully,
parts needed,
then you will need an Evo 7 or 8 ecu for the conversion,
you will be able to pick these up from one of the Evo forums in the for sale section,
updated spreadsheet

Nice info barry, but I think pins 32 and 34 need swapping over before 20 goes to 32 and 21 goes to 34, otherwise the fans don't work correctly.

And I haven't changed pin 6 to pin 53 as I was told it isn't needed.

Works 100% ok like this with evo7 code, but with evo8 I gives me the Evaporate Emission Purge Solenoid fault code for some reason.

cheers Dude,
according to the electrical schematics
pin 20 evo 5 rad fan hi
pin 21 evo 5 rad fan lo
pin 32 evo 7 condensor fan hi
pin 34 evo 7 condensor fan lo

so connect cable 20 to 32 and 21 to 34, as per the instruction sheet

Pin 32 on a 5/6 is A/C fan low and pin 34 is A/C fan High

So if you connect pin 20 (rad fan hi) to 32 (a/c fan low) it's going to switch on the wrong way around.

I have switched the 2 around, and then connected 20 to the wire now at 32 and 21 to the wire now at 34, and the fan works 100% on it's own as normal, and speeds up when the a/c is already running.

I know what your saying mate, I am just going by what wreckleford on the MLR told me, and thats what I did and it works for me.

I thing gtpumps had it wired the way you are saying, and he was having problems, and has now wired it the same way as me, and it's working for him.

Maybe the 5 and 6 are wired slightly differently (as the ecu's so far seem to be a little different after all, as some of us can't read the 6 ecu).

I'm not up on the in's and out's of the wiring, just letting you know what I was told, and what works for me.

Do you have A/C on your 5 ?

Ok, this is the thread I got the info from mate.

http://www.lancerregister.com//showthre ... genumber=3

Not saying your wrong, just saying it's different to the way I have done it.

No worries mate.

As I said, I am no expert with electrics, just wanted to point out that they way I was told to do it, and the way I have done it was different.

Glad it's all sorted now :D

p.s is that FQ300 file you uploaded any better than the Evo7 RA files ?

yeah my car idle'd like a pig on the RA file and I had 2 fault codes now I have none and it runs like it was on the oem ECU,
its a great base map to start tuning from,

Strange, mine seems to run fine on the 7RA code (edm version) no fault codes with it either.

Very weird, lol

Ok I have an FQ340 dump that I aquired, would this be better then the FQ300 dump ?

Barry, you will still need the resistor for the front 02 if you do this conversion on an Evo 4. You will need to run a wire for pin 79 to allow you to reflash on a 4 also.

Also the fuel pump and a/c fan wires don't need swapping if you use a 7 ECU.

You will need a ROM with the rear 02 sensor deleted if you want to avoid that code also.

I got a usdm evo8 ecu (MN132874) and a stock harness, examining this harness found no wire at pin 53. Now where do I connect pin 6 on my patch harness.

leave it in pin 6 USDM didnt have SAS so it will help with the EGR throwing a fault code,
