Postby sith » Sun Jun 24, 2007 6:59 pm

Looking to get some help in working toward tuning my 6spd version 7 jdm sti swap to greater efficiency and power. I will post all info i have here, i would love any input other openecu members and will answer any questions.. just pm me or post here..

My Car:

stock rom: http://forums.openecu.org/viewtopic.php?t=837

2.0l jdm v7 VF30 non-twinscroll
Stock subaru MAF, 01RS rad
Stock Subaru BCS(prolly will upgrade to the gm one soon)
04 WRX Intercooler and stock STi BPV
Bosal SPT CBE with stock catted JDM downpipe

also i will order a wideband afr and knock detection device.. could someone please offer an opinion on which i should purchase, ie: which will integrate into logging programs best, also my primary laptop does not have a serial port, and i use a tatrix openport 1.3.. thanks!

attached are WOT runs captured in enginuity(because the ecuexplorer site is down), please let me know if there is anything else i should log..

so west_minist where too from here :)

You will find the either the LC1 or the LM1 to be nice.

Because you have a Subaru and many things youcan log from the software, I would suggest the LC1.

Any knock product thats works perfect that is discuss on the lovely site Enginuity, should work for you.

Please post your orginal file in your main post for newbie reference.

You should have a folder structure to follow your changes.

Cheers.

Woow.

You are at 21psi. Normal for a stock jdm w/ the mods you posted. lol

Just help us.

What are your tuning needs?
How do you drive?
what boost would you like to run?
What gas do you used?
How do you want the power deliver? Choose throttle points.

You need to log AFR, Fuel Injector in %

Your IAM dropped a bit, but not terribly bad.

Send me the rom you have installed or just posted it here.

here are some more logs and to anwser you questions

What are your tuning needs?
I'm wide open, dont really have needs, its my daily driver, i just want the best possible fuel economy, power, responsiveness and maybe in the future to be able to use 91 octane pump gas.. mostly i just want to tune my ecu's efficiency and learn in the process..

How do you drive?
Well i drive mostly quite spirited.. like to get on the go quick.. but not into the red and not extremely fast.. just quick. I do occasionally use it on the highway ~120kms

What boost would you like to run?
I'd like to keep my stock turbo for a while, and i have no real answer for you, what is safe to run on my setup?

What gas do you used?
I have been using 91 octane pump plus penzoil mmt octane booster in the logs posted and it seems to work pretty well.. i'll prolly stick with that for now.. but maybe in the future just go 91 pump.

How do you want the power deliver? Choose throttle points.
You may need to explain this one a little further if i don't answer properly.. I would like to reduce the turbo lag a bit.. have the power a little more handy in the 2500-3500 range and flow smoothly.. as for throttle positions.. i don't know.. seems on the socob.bb site you say "Boost is control by throttle and customer have the choice for high boost at 80+% of throttle, there making lower throttle usage feel like stock." is this setup the most driver friendly? if this is the recommended throttle point then i'm ok with that.

rest of the logs attached.. only 3 allowed per post. stock rom in first post.

You can email them to me.

Some people liek a little more power below, some like an almost semi stock and reall power over 7-% of power.

Well we will see.

Now, 19-20 is good for you. Now, since you are overboosting, hopefully we can bring that down to that level.

email me your rom and I will send you one.

Hey,

I am starting to believe that your boost controller does not function properly.

Do you have a new actuator or make charges around the turbo area?

hmm.. well i have a stock subaru bcs.. i'm not sure what you mean by
"Do you have a new actuator or make charges around the turbo area?"

please explain

transmission is a 02 jdm 6mt with no dccd.
tire size 205/55/16
weight is prolly around ~2900

You boost behaviour is like a the bcs is not working. 21psi at 65+ wg is pretty high.

Post your tranny number. I need to know the gear ratio.

You can try cleaning them, including the tubes and check the pill.

You can also install the Perrin EBCS :)

For a car that is suppose to be stock like yours, you hit 21psi fairly normal.

Sith

My car is a JDM non twin scroll with the VF30 turbo. This turbo will run 1.5bar midrange and 1.1 / 1.2 top end, but you may need to change the downpipe to a less restrictive one if you want to run this amount of boost.

The turbo is the same as a VF34 except for the bearing design, which means it spools about 500rpm later than the VF34. I have had mine hitting full boost around 3200rpm, but my car has an open downpipe and a Perrin EBCS. You may also be limited because you have the WRX intercooler and these are less efficient than the STI one so you probably want to keep a check on temperatures on the outlet side of the intercooler. I would expect the current level of boost is probably as much as you want to run, it isn't unusual for these cars to overboost once you improve the exhaust system so this will explain why it runs more than the stock target.

You should be able to improve the lower rpms a bit by tuning the fuelling and this may also help spool up, but you may not really get as much boost as you would like below 3000rpm on a 2 litre with this turbo.

For a wideband I would also recommend the LC-1 or LM-1, and you should be able to use the logworks software that comes with it with a plugin for the tactrix cable to log AFR alongside all your other parameters. I haven't been able to get this to work but my cable is a 1.2, so I have used Ecuedit.

In the graph the IAM has probably dropped because of a little more boost than stock target, lower grade fuel than is mapped for (100 ron in Japan), and maybe the intake is a bit hotter due to the intercooler. You will have to reduce timing quite a bit on this, particularly above 5000rpm, to stop it detting.

If you just want to run it on 91 octane then even less timing / slightly richer and less boost again.

For info, I run my car on 99 ron fuel, and I have had to pull more than 6 degrees from the stock map in places. This is based on my ears listening for det using detcans backed up by a knocklite.

Hope this helps.

.. yeah.. a ton.. excellent post.. i'm sorry i didn't keep up with the thread the first time you offered your help.. the car was not running and was too broke to fix it :)

i got a bunch of questions.. answer were you can, if you dont mind.. from your wording.. you think my car is detonating? how badly in stock form? safe to go WOT?

how does the lc-1 or lm-1 interface with the computer? through the tatrix cable? also how do i know with version tatrix cable i have? are there differences?

do you think there is value in the perrin ecbs over the gm part upgrade?

thanks! ...also i'll continue using the booster plus 91 for now..
