buidling a shboot mode device

Postby adamsaiyad » Thu May 05, 2011 10:12 am

I will be tuning alot of cars here in Zimbabwe eventually, but i need to make sure i have a backup plan, is there any way of building this sh boot mode interface adapter, i have gone onto tactrix downloaded the schematic but the person who i have shown it to says we need two ics ?
How do we programme these ics for the job intended... rescuing subaru ecus?
alternatively is there someone out there that makes these and can supply me with two of them ?
I dont want to brick an ecu and then have to be waiting to make one or even have to send the ecu to tactrix as in africa shipping to america is 150 usd
Then shipping back another 100 usd plus the time factor of having a car off the road .
Please help from those experienced.

You may use any USB\UART or COM\UART converter with free Renesas FDT tool.
But. Denso ECU needs watchdog timer badly for BootMode. Otherwise ecu will be reset each 40-50 ms.

Sorry but not sure as the tactrix site said i needed a specific chipset ?
So this is the cable i have
http://www.sunix.com.tw/product/uts2009 ... 77777.html
And wanted to check and confirm it will work.
i can get a watch dog timer from a local electronics store.
Please confirm if this will work yes or no ?
Thankyou for taking time to respond .

You need FTDI based chipset for Tactrix.
The cable you have mentioned is MosChip based and is not applicable for Tactrix.
Moreover RS232 is not applicable for SHbootMode.
You will need UART (aka MAX232 or equivalent as a convertor or USB\UART adapter) and use Renesas FDT in case of using non-FTDI based adapter .

The cheapest "VagCom compatible k-line adapter" is FTDI based and is applicable for SHboot Tactrix mode (with appropriate redesign).

ANY USB/UART adapter based on reputable chipset (FTDI, Prolific, SiLabs) is applicable for Renesas FDT software.

WatchDog time circuitry is required for Denso ECU regardless of the chipset of the adapter used.

This page
http://www.tactrix.com/index.php?option ... &Itemid=41
gives instruction on how to do it, and includes a full schematic of the required hardware. The 555 timer provides the watchdog tickler.
