Reading ecu rom image?

Postby venom79 » Fri Mar 09, 2007 1:07 pm

Hi

Is there any risks about reading rom image? If reading somehow interrupts or something goes wrong, is there any change that ecu corrupts?

I don't believe so. The ROM is not written, and the RAM is cleared when the ECU is reset anyway, so it shouldn't be possible to screw up an ECU just by reading the image. Of course that is barring a horrible bug in the software, act of God, quantum tunneling, etc.

Slightly related question... I notice when I simply read my ECU image that the ECU resets. I lose my long term fuel trims and learned fine learning knock correction. Is this normal just for reading the ROM?
