Old Subaru Turbo Chip-Tunig

Postby Imp Guerra » Fri Jan 07, 2005 9:19 pm

Old Subaru Turbo (till 1996) has spare 28pin socket for the extra-chip.
No re-flash. It can be re-mapped via external programmer.

Those good old days :)

see
http://www.ecutek.narod.ru

unfort. all the stuff is in russian and i am not going to translate it.
there is no such cars in USA and Canada as i know

The socket takes a Fujitsu 27C1028. These are quite hard to find these days :(

There's good fun to be had from mapping these. ;)

A friend of mine has a spare 91 Legacy turbo ECU he is going to send to another member of the board. So consider one accessable.

accessable ?
could be old ECU re-flashed or couldn't ?
why try to re-flash it ?
But it can be chipped.
It is standard feature of G8 and subaru ecus with 28-dip socket

btw:
(May be i get the meaning of the word "accessable" in the wrong way :?:
i (and my non-native-english friends use:

to chip - re-programm existing chip or add extra
to re-map - change the ignition/boost/fueling ect... maps in general by any way exept "doggy/piggy"
to f@#k around/about - ( in russian "naebAt", swear-word) to put some doggy / piggy
to flash / to re-flash - obvious :)
and
to access is for reading ECU with some scantool, scanner, adaptor, interface. Get a reply from ECU to some command in general, or reveal the protocol (partially or fully does not matter)

but the terms can differ within one language also.
:!:
please would u comment these ?
it is rather important to me

By accessable I just simply meant there is one we can use for any purpose, be it research or for testing.

Hopefully I will be getting this spare ECU soon and desoldering the PROM and getting a good dump off it. We could definitely get a bin from the old select protocol 1 port but it is more reliable and easier at this point to simply socket a spare ecu for testing perposes.

Some people have successfully dissasembled dumps obtained through the select monitor port with a little success. So once I get the prom off and a socket on there we can see if we can move further.

Check this out:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 7950565401

I just got home today and it came in!! It claims to be from an auto trans turbo GL-10 (austrailian, I think), judging by the writing on the case. I just bought it because it was cheap and thought it might offer some insight into the more modern controllers.

It's socketed, and I don't think it would be too hard to pull the rom off. Pic of tag on case:

Pic as opened

And with daughterboard removed

The socket is covered with tape, so I assume it's not been played with. So what should I do with it? I don't even know how to power it up to check it out. I also don't have a burner or roms yet, but that will be on the way next week some time.

Hi, this is my first post...I'm not so well versed into the SW world, but knows roughly the basics...

What Tap has is the older version's Liberty / Legacy Series 1 ECU, an 8bit ROM.

What I also would like to find out from our Russian friend is, can the chip for a 92RS Turbo be allowed to alter any parameter ourselves when we have done some hardware changes?
Sorry, all in russian, I can't make out...

Thanks.

16-bit eprom
obsolete and very hard to find device
production have been stopped in 1996 (imho)

can the chip for a 92RS Turbo be allowed to alter any parameter ourselves when we have done some hardware changes?

have a look at:

http://ecutek.narod.ru/chip1.htm

it is rom-editor
you can alter some parameters with it
also you need burner (programmer) to burn dump into the chip
or you can buy ready-made chip with parameters you need

ps
previously
before Legacy/Liberty
it was Subaru XT and Subaru Leole/Loyal Turbo 1.8 EA82-engines, that used 27c256 chips (or 27c512 ???)
sorry it was so long ago... :)

I saw a link on the page for 2.2 turbo.

I am having trouble navigating the site and downloading the chip burner.

There was no such engine as 2.2-Turbo exept exclusive version "Impreza_22b", very rare and expencive european celebrating model.
What you have seen on the page it is 2.2-turbo made by russians
DIY-selfers.

Pulley is 2.2 atmo (naturally aspirated) engine,
CAMs are from 2.0 turbo. And Turbine itself with ECU.
If do not low compression ratio - such engine will be ruined in 2-5 minutes.

The article on the site is against such "dirty-garage" tuning.

It is easy to navigate the site.
There are two pages only.
Main one and the other, quoted above in this thread.

I just sell burned chips for old ecu, like G8, K2 and other that has spare socket from the factory.

***

Summary of the site:

there are three versions of subaru-turbo ecu
-1992-1996 can be chipped
-1997-1998 (ac750) has no approach, besides Doggy-Piggy interseptors/modifiers of the out/in signals, like boost-controllers, ect.
-since 1999 ecu can be flashed.

But it you do not want, have no money or by any reason do not want to flash:

u can sell your new (1999 and on ECU) for good price
buy 1992-1996 ecu for low price
buy burnt CHIP and install it into the ecu
and save some money for suspension for your car or girls for yourself :)

Old ECU non-OBD, so they are not "ecological" ECU. You can totally decat the car.

That is it.

And one more thing.

Our local rally sport-laws (N-group) do not allow third-parties made ecu, like Apexi, Link, Motec, Gems, ect...
For rally-men is to expencive to flash for every rally-day,
they have a set of chips for various inlet temperature (3-4 chips) and simply change them as the weather chandes.

ps.
some Atmo-ECU do have spare socket also, but i see no reason to torture your atmo-subaru.
it never runs like Turbo.
I see no point to waste time and money and rape the engine.
Atmo is a comfortable car for family week-ends.
We do not deal with atmo, only repair. No tuning.
But we can install Impreza 2.0 turbo ej20t 1996-2000 engine into Leone/Loyal 1986 :)
with turbo gear-box and final drive 4.111
and with chipped ecu G8, on 105MON fuel it is fast as a bullet...

It is rather expencive, and no chance to sell this car for good price.
People make them for fun, they have some cars to drive to and from work.
And it is week-end car for street-racing only, cos it is impossible to go through rally-tech-inspection.
More over, total majority do not have roll-cages.

ps
sorry for my very poor english for today - totaly tired.
Here is 7.00 in the morning and all night long i solder ecu from 2000-legacy.
In our country we have a lot of drowned cars from US and Europe.
People buy them, cars are very cheap.
But ECU is totally destroyed, so with IMMO on european cars.
We repair ecus, delete immo codes from ecu.
Try to earn some money for our own cars, for 105MON fuel, and for the girls :)

If you live in US or Canada and see that your Subaru sinks.
Please, disconnect the accum. battery immediatly !
We just clean ECU and sell it like after-repair one.
:)))

good night.
and stay tuned at www.openecu.org

Hi Imp G,

Yes, mine is a 16 bit ECU. I'm wondering if there is any chip that can do dump on, on certain parameters.

I tried your site, and the thing is, it's in russian...any chance of it being english or translated? Thanks!

I'm working on these ECUs.

I've made a daughtboard that emulates the 27c1028 with 2 27c512 eproms.

Does anyone have any info where the maps are held - its pretty easy to see the location of the fuel and ignition maps - a bit more involved trying to find the rev limits, injector scaling constant and speed limits etc.

thanks for this info. Hope this can help in various engine repair of old Subarus since this can readily detect of even prevent breakage and malfunctions of the car.
