so the number following the code tells u if its enabled or disabled? you sure its not saying if its active or innactive? just crossing the t's and dotting i's i dont think subaru would put disabled codes on an ecu? i denno its late and im tired haha

On the DBW ecus, it doesn't appear to be the value following the CEL code... but it seems to be like that for the non DBW ecus...

ok, i just tried it, and it's weird, i get a constant flashing cruise, and the CEL is on... and the car surges at idle... so obviously something itsn't right...

i can't quite figure it out, since it's too coincidental... i have 2 roms, one has the egt turned off, and those are the locations that have been changed to 0... there must be another table somewhere else that needs to be changed...

did u try the original way of just over writing the code in hex? 05 00 00?

I will take a look at my -500J 512kb STI ROM tonight and see if I can figure it out. I just took out the last cat out of my car so I'm popping a P0420 every other day, so I'll flash it and see what I can come up with.

akcel, this is a completely different CPU than the 160kb ECUs. It is not going to be the same fix.

It seems my ECU is the same. I counted its the 64th CEL for P0420. I'll give it a shot tonight, but it'll take a day or two to see if the CEL will pop or not.

Well, let me know once you reflash it, whether the car does anything weird... as soon as I reflash it, the car's idle surges and I get a CEL and flashing cruise... which is weird...

Then again, both my ROM images have been tuned so there could be other stuff that is interfering...

Hey Freon... did the method work to eliminate your CEL ? I'm pretty sure that this is the correct method..

but for some reason, when I try this with my ecu, I get a flashing cruise/CEL and lumpy idle...

both of my ecu's were previous ECUtek'd tuned, so I'm wondering if the ECUTek tune has some kind of global checksum routine to prevent modification...

Well tested the flashing, I have the same problem.

Modified ROM causes the car to start, but idle at 1200RPM @ 16 inHg @ 25:1 AFR. It should idle at 800, 19inHg, and 14.7 or so.

Something is missing... Doh! Some sort of failsafe CRC check in the factory ECU code?

Flashing back to stock seems to work fine.

I'm checking the code in IDA right now to see if I see anything.

Here is your solution:

http://wiki.openecu.org/index.php?title=Subaru:DBW_Checksum_Algorithm

I'm going to add checksum correction to EcuFlash right away...

so i finally got a chance to flash my 'fixed' rom using the 05 00 00 method on my A4SGD10C(02 wrx) and it seemed to kill the cel light, but the cel's actually show up in ecuexplorer. this normal? anyway to completely disable these codes ?
