OBDII Protocol Spec (?)

Postby richip » Wed Aug 17, 2005 8:08 am

Hi,

I'd like to know a little more about OBDII software development. Could somebody point me out to the communications protocol? I understand SAE is charging for the document. Does our group have a copy? If anyone has a personal copy but won't post it (for whatever reason), could you PM me and maybe I could just look at it, at least?

I guess I'll just post all the links I can find on this thread. Note that most are incomplete, but that's to be expected. It would be nice if our group had a copy of the spec for our own use, though.

Here's a good resources site: http://www.obd2crazy.com/links.html

Here's a good site for programmer info: http://obddiagnostics.com/obdinfo/info.html

From the link above, I found this site:

http://www.obd-codes.com/

I scanned the site and it has got a LOT of goodies on OBDII. From the site itself:

About OBD-Codes.com

This site was created in June 2004 with the intent to be the Internet's most comprehensive resource site when it comes to troubleshooting OBD codes. The site was started because I realized that while other sites listed the OBD code descriptions, they didn't offer any tips on how to fix the problem. The cryptic OBD codes are useless without further help. So I set out to offer complete information on OBD trouble codes, including symptoms, possible solutions, and much more, in layman's terms.
