Oh christ, you serious? Then why does it get listed as the thing you have to install every time someone recommends using a... sigh, ok, so I need to remove the libs and the kexts? Is there any sort of a driver I DO need to have installed to use the tactrix+ecuflash with OS X?

There is a driver, but it's included in the Ecuflash build. There are two drivers on the FTDI website; D2XX and VCP. You probably installed the VCP which takes control of the device and doesn't work with the other driver, which Ecuflash uses.

Do you know how to remove OS X system extensions? You should be able to remove the ftdiserial extension, reboot, and be off to the races.

cheers

EDIT: The whole thing gets even more confusing because a wrote a couple of programs (Ecuflash/libmut) that uses the _other_ driver, VCP. You can't use those and ecuflash at the same time.

I removed two kexts, a dylib, and a link to the dylib. Hopefully, that's all of it.

No way I'm going back out to test it tonight though. It's 14F with a 35mph wind blowing the snow everywhere. The laptop's screen started to slow down the last time I went out to try something tonight

OK, as I posted above, I removed the two kexts with "FTDI" in their name as well as a "ftdi" lib from /usr/local/lib/. Rebooted. Reconnected to car. Still says "No vehicle interface"

Any other ideas?

Wait, you mentioned conflicts with other software. I've installed JDash, which uses software from RXTX. Could that be the problem?

Possibly. I'm not familiar with JDash. Does it try to use the openport cable? Basically any driver that finds the cable when it's plugged in is going to cause the built-in ecuflash driver to fail.

You are you using an intel mac, right?

Yeah, it's an intel mac. I'll try rooting out the RXTX stuff and see if it fixes it.

Well do this first. Open system profiler and see if there are any drivers activated for that device when it is plugged in.

This is what System Profiler has to say about it:

OpenPort 1.3 Subaru:

  Version:   6.00
  Bus Power (mA):   500
  Speed:   Up to 12 Mb/sec
  Manufacturer:   Tactrix

  Vendor ID:   0x0403
