Not new to EPROM tuning, but new to ECUFlash

I have been toying with EPROM tuning on DSMs for quite some time, and am pretty excited to see this opportunity on Evos. From the information I've gathered, to be able to edit an Evo 8 ECU, I don't even need to open it up and change anything like i would on a DSM, all I'd have to do is plug in the tactrix cable, click download from ECU, It will recognize the bin and load the definition, then I can make my changes and write it back. Am I correct, it is that simple? Also, will this work to make changes to an ECU already tuned by Al or another person doing similar? And it works with Any EVO8?

I'm sorry for the newbie-ish questions, I just want to make sure my assumptions of how this works are correct.
