Need help getting DTC using EvoScan

I need help please. I am trying to get log & read DTC as serve engine light come up. I need to fix it.
I have openport 1.3u cable & latest evoscan application. Last try i got massage with code 00FF & could not connect to the ECU. Just wondering if the cable can't work on 2008 EX Lancer! I tryed with the same labtop+ cable at my 2006 lancer & it work fine.
Any suggestion or comments is highly appreciated.
