just a thought for putting an 8 ecu into an earlier evo is to rejumper the ecu rather than cutting the loom.
The jumpers are on the bottom of the pcb at the top left.
j10 to j11
j12 to j13
you need a fine soldering iron and tweezers but the result is you can then swap back and forth between the ecus and the authorities don't see any wiring changes.
Also you can't get confused about wiring pin numbers as the jumpers are un-ambiguous.

just remove the pins from the connector block to swap them it gets easy to remember after you've done a few hundred :D

definitely agree there, although you can't then do a quick ecu swap that way. (I like the car to remain the same and the bit thats being plugged in to conform so down the track others dont get stumped)
However, if you are not concerned about swapping ecus then swapping pins looks neater than cutting. Also the 8 ECU need the tracks cut and wirewrap wire jumpered for the fan control which I forgot to mention and while thats easy there are no jumpers to do that.
