Unable to read EcuTek flashed car

Postby XXChris » Mon Jan 08, 2007 9:51 am

Hey guys,

I've been trying for over week to get into this car.. It's an 05 EVO 8, car was originally EcuTek'd by me, but now I want to tune with OpenECU.

So far I've tried:

Purchasing the Tatrix cable
Running Active Matrix ECU Unlocker
Flashing the car back with a stock rom file from EcuTek (License is still on the ECU)

I am using OpenECU 1.28.716
ECU Unlocker Version: V1.1
ECU Code: JM9694-11 - 1860A118

The port indicated on the bottom right of my screen says "Openport 1.3 Mitsubishi TX35YQlE"

Error message I get is this:

Code: Select all
[00:20:34.703] Version 1.28.716
[00:20:34.718] 8 memory models read.

[00:20:47.406] sending init sequence 1 (0003)

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as this car is dead in the water right now.

Ecutek has a lock to stop other products from flashing the ECU. You need to revert the ECU back to a factory flash to use Openecu tools. I don't know exactly how this works, but Ecutek should show you how or give you a software update to allow it.

Is this the case even using ECU Unlocker?

From looking at your log, it appears that ECUFlash is not picking up the unlockers settings.

Are you running the unlocker and leaving it running while ECUFlash is running?
Also are you running the unlocker before you launch ECUFlash?

If you are, do you have any sort of anti-spywhere or other application that can prevent changes from applications on your system?

Absolutely

Yes, I even rebooted after the install, verified the .Net 2.0 install, rebooted again, and still the same error.

Only Windows Defender, which I just disabled, and still no luck.

I have also read that a low batter will cause issue, the car has been charging for over 3 hours since the battery was slightly low, that is now back up and still the same results occurs.

Thanks for your insight.. Anything else?

I'm all set.

I un-installed OpenECU, rebooted, re-installed 1.29a, rebooted, verified .net, rebooted, opened ECU Unlocker, Ran OpenECU... BAM! I'm in.

Thanks Jack.

Excellent! I that would have been the next thing I suggested if I was able to get into the site last night.

Nothing yet, I Haven't had a subi ECU on the bench to "hack at" plus i need to learn alot more about the Subi ECU which I just haven't had the time for.

When I revised the Unlocker, the most current version of the software was 1.28, and its hard to know if new versions of the software would retain the portions needed to allow the unlocker to work.

As of now, the Unlocker should work with any version of ECUFlash later than 1.26 unless someone tests it and reports otherwise.

As a precaution, I kept a version of 1.28 set aside "just in case" 1.29a didn't work at the time. Now I just keep older versions available for different reasons.

I have the same problem like xxcriss, same test, same error on interface. Have you any progress with this?
I Have a chips programmer and i try to desoldering the main processor to back the original ROM contents into Flash eprom.
I still works on it.
Please notify me if anyone solve this problem, my car is now run with an MOTEK ecu, but don´t works fine.

You may want to read the technical document for the exact chip your ECU is using. I think most of the SH processors have a boot mode loader, which allows writing (and I suppose reading...) of an ECU no matter what programming changes may have been made.

I believe Colby intends to add support for this into ECUflash at some point, but for now you'd need to build and write your own interface.

Here's some general info:
http://www.openecu.org/index.php?title=SHBootMode

Keep in mind this article is mentioning a feature not in the current release of Ecuflash, and it is specifically for the 2005 Subaru STI, but it might get you pointed in the right direction. It makes more sense if you also look at the CPU hardware tech doc.
