Help needed please

Postby BarryC » Fri Nov 24, 2006 2:36 pm

I am totally new to this software so please be gentle
I keep getting this message when I try to manipulate the rom Ive downloaded from my car

"the current map description is invalid or incomplete. please edit the map discription to fix the problem and the map will be viewable again"

my car is an 03 evo 8 Jap Import

can someone please point me to a how to for Idiots like me at the moment I am only interested in removing my 180kmph speed limiter,
when I downloaded the rom it asked me for a definition and the only thing remotly close to my model was evo 7 base
I know this is frustrating for all you veterans but I am really interested in learning how to do this,
also what is the difference between a definition and the rom or what are the definitions used for
Thanks
BarryC

Some help.

Go to this Open ECU page

http://forums.openecu.org/download.php?id=859

and download the XML files (RAR or Zip file). Uncompress the file and add the new XML files to your

C:\Program/Files\OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata
Folder.
After that you should be able to bring up MOST EVOs.

Your vehicle was listed as EVO 8 FQ300, or similar model.

Make sure you have the latest ECU Flash, and look over this

http://forums.openecu.org/viewtopic.php?t=1190

If you have any other questions or problems feel free to ask.

Good luck and have fun! (nice ride also)

ok I have sucessfully downloaded from my ECU and am able to manipulate the variables for starters I wanted to remove the speed limiter
and did so but when I tried to write to my ECU I got this message
[04:51:13.976] Flashing tools do not recognize flash method 'evo'
so Ive dug around and opened the definition and found this

<xmlid>93660005</xmlid>
<internalidaddress>f52</internalidaddress>
<internalidhex>93660005</internalidhex>
<make>Mitsubishi</make>
<market>JDM</market>
<model>Lancer</model>
<submodel>EVO8 FQ300</submodel>
<transmission>Manual</transmission>
<year>2004</year>
<flashmethod>evo</flashmethod>
<memmodel>SH7052</memmodel>

so I am changing the flashmethod to this

<xmlid>93660005</xmlid>
<internalidaddress>f52</internalidaddress>
<internalidhex>93660005</internalidhex>
<make>Mitsubishi</make>
<market>JDM</market>
<model>Lancer</model>
<submodel>EVO8 FQ300</submodel>
<transmission>Manual</transmission>
<year>2004</year>
<flashmethod>mitsukernel</flashmethod>
<memmodel>SH7052</memmodel>

is this correct??????

I've just attempted to flash an 8 FQ300 and recieved the same error - Flashing tools do not recognize flash method 'evo'

Did you find an answer?
