Newbie here. Have some questions

Postby SaabaruMike » Wed May 24, 2006 9:35 pm

I was looking for a better alternative to paying the big bucks for a tune and ended up here. I've done tuning in the ODBI world, but am new to ODBII's.

My newbie questions are:

What are some good FAQ links?
Do I need to get different software for data logging and tuning?
Is there a good place to find base maps for different mod levels?
Any good source on Do's and Dont's when getting started?

I know these questions are probably all answerable by doing some good searching but I'm hoping you guys can do a better job at pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks,
Mike

Here a little clip from an email I send a friend
First step is to probably check out nasioc, if your not already familiar with it, anything and everything, by no exaggeration can be found on there, any question you have ever had should be able to be answered by using the search function, though it can be a bit cumbersome since there is so much info on the site.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/
and this forum specific to all types of tuning http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=80
and this thread for some logging software, in which you'd need a cable.

Open ecu forum, lots of good stuff here, mainly ecuexplorer can be downloaded here, which is the program you can use to pull you stock rom (ecu image) off your car, it also lets you upload a new image to your car, there are programs to edit ecu images on there too, though I prefer enguinity. There are also specific forums to your model year of WRX, which is really nice, to see what other are doing and saying.

Enginuity, both software and a forum, I like this software best for changing and editing maps. http://www.enginuity.org/index.php

There is also scoobypedia, which seems to have the easiest to read instructions on how to actually do all this stuff though, not always "super clear" probably the best and only how to in one place. http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Knowledge/ECU

and http://www.tactrix.com/ for the cable

Hope that helps you a bit.
