Damaged ECU swapped out 07 Outback

Damaged ECU swapped out 07 Outback

Postby Bababooey » Wed Nov 28, 2012 6:42 pm

I have a 07 Subaru outback, which had some mild flood damage from Sandy, which in return damaged the ECU. I sent the ECU out to be rebuilt but it was too badly damaged to rebuild. So I bought a used/rebuilt one from a donor vehicle of the same year, model, options, engine size transmission size ect as mine. The place that is rebuilding it said that the dealer would have to reprogram it. When I asked my dealer they said this is not true. The only thing that would need to be done is resetting the factory alarm.

My question is, granted all the other electronics are working in the vehicle as they should, once I plug the rebuilt ECU in should the vehicle start? When swapping ECU's out of like vehicles, what is usually involved? The last car I worked on before the outback was my 79 VW Beetle so I am learning all over again. I am data mining with the hopes of being able to save my pride and joy. I welcome any ideas which can point me in the correct direction.

Thanks in advanced

Your local dealer should probably marry immo if the car wont start.

May I ask what "Immo" stands for?

I believe your staying it should start with the ECU?

Immobilizer; newer subaru vehicles have this. It is tied to your ignition key.
